Ok, i know i want to go SLI, but i'm looking for some advice on what chipset to run the cards on.
The plan: 2x 8800GTX Q9450 @ 3.2GHz (400FSB) 4GB RAM Vista x64 HP Now, i've already got 4GB of Crucial Ballistix which i'm very happy with and don't really want to part with in order to make way for much more expensive DDR3 RAM on the 790i chipset. However, i am willing to do the above if it's going to be worthwhile. I'm only asking for a 400FSB from the CPU so i don't really need the high FSB capabilities on the 790i chipset. I understand that the 790i runs cooler than the 780i, but so long as this doesn't give issues, i'm not overly concerned about that. What i'm really after is advice on whether or not the 790i will provide any benefits on just the SLI side of things. Will my SLI scale better on the newer chipset or will i be looking at roughly the same improvement over the 780i? I realise the 790i has more potential, but say the 790i had DDR2 and was set on a 400FSB like the 780i would be, would the SLI scaling be about the same? EDIT: just found this http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=728&p=3 Looks like it may be worth waiting for the 790i...
