Tracked down this baby (not this one but same model/colour/condition), L44xxx serial. Anyone want to guess what a fair price is - still negotiating.
L series strat? Anything up to $20kish is reasonable $10k would be cheap. It's the 50's Telecasters that are worth $50k+ stupid money really when you'll get the same sound out of a post CBS 80's model hand built strat. Little known fact is that Fender rebought their factory around that time and didn't have the machinery so guitars from around that period are mostly handbuilt and new old stock.

I am trying around the $15K mark so I reckon I am pretty good given a few dealers are asking around $20-25K

While it sounds ok (and plays not too bad), I am not buying it for the sound as must as having one from that era, particularly if I can get it for a good price.

A lot of those guitars just end up on a shelf somewhere, I don't get it. On sound, yeah they all sound different, all gutars sound different. If I were buying a guitar on sound I'd probably buy an 84-87 Series American standard Strat, my dad has a Mary Kaye of that era, but then he's also got L series Mustangs, Broncos, and a Duo Sonic, a Dan Electro, and a range of harmony guitars. On sound for a rock guitar Harmony/Airline,etc Stratotones are ridiculously cheap as are Danelectro's and they're just going to go up like a Strat your going to put on your book shelf the benefit of it is that they're still reasonably priced so you can still play them without worrying about losing money.

My dads get one of these sitting at his place, awesome guitar

I am not buying it for it's playability.. as I said, cause I wanted to add one from that era to my small but growing collection.

It will get played, don't fret

I've got the other strat for playing and the Gretsch. A mate just got a G&L 'strat' and it is a superb guitar, plays extremely well out of the box and is one of the best put together guitars I have ever seen...

your dad's Kaye - is it an archtop by any chance (looking for one).

1993 MIJ Squier Stratocaster in Gloss Red, man does this thing sound good.

2007 Maton M225, a guitar that I'll go to the grave with. This thing is something special.

There's nothing more to the story! Allans does them for about $1799 on the website (for this one anyway. Its hard to find a white with chrome hardware apparently).

They bloke out at Sky Music (Henry and Nathan were both great, and very knowledgeable about their products) apparently plays in a band with the Orange and Gibson importer (the same bloke does both), hence a few bucks cheaper because of mates rates. I honestly went in thinking of buying a Maton Mastersound MS500 and walked away with this. If you could hear it, oh man.....

EDIT: I should add, its got an Ebony fretboard, which the non-white ones do not.

love the white and chrome LP's, pretty much what I think I wanna get someday soon. I used to own an '86 LP studio with that exact finish and ebony board, should never have sold it...

I am not sure yet to be honest. I bought the thing, played it for a few hours and then went to see Sherlock Holmes (excellent by the way).

I think the ebony is beautiful to look at, and the guitar is fast. Its a lovely change to a strat, and I think I like it a lot. Fairly expensive though, but you know sometimes you have to.
