Didn't say it was a bad song! It's just not something i'm too excited about learning. I've already managed the intro and 1st guitar solo riff. I got the tabs off ultimate guitar but they don't sound much like the real thing .

try and use your ear and find a tab that matches the music.

if it sounds like poo, change tab =]

the UG tabs are good.. just listen to the album, the problem with tabs is there is no timing and pink floyd is all about timing. oh and the strumming pattern for wish you were here and is quite unconventional as well. best song ever.

For the strat, what I meant was, buy a cheap electric that is okay to play, and an amp that is awesome sounding, because 99.9% of a noobs tone is from his amp, not his guitar...

you buy an expensive guitar because it plays well, is solid and looks awesome.

you buy an amp because it sounds awesome.

well got the guitar, good news is the pickups are dimarzio air nortons and tone zones, the bad news is the finish is quite bad and the floating trem in it is a takeuchi trs-101 which isn't as good as the edge / lo-edge i'm used to so i'm going to redo it next holiday and maybe change it back to non floating trem

Ibanez PR1660

I did some hacking (well, filling) and installed a wilkinson trem + piezo.

The axe is in bits because im repainting it... and because i sold the neck when i was broke, lol. One day she will be reborn again (maybe the same time i finish those other two guitars, haha ).

Ah, yes - but it's not a V now is it!

Something about Vs.. they just need to stay a solid color.

anyway, whats the main difference? i play thrash/death/black pretty much so really JUST metal. is it worth spending the extra $? are they any other brands/models i should consider in the price bracket?

sorry for long post and links, hopefully this is the right place to ask? :s thanks

The guitar players thread (v2) is probably the more appropriate place to ask but anyway we're here now. I take it you already have a guitar? I recently bourght a guitar in around the same price range that you are looking and spent months (while I accumulated cash ) running around trying shit out and I play a fair bit of metal so I can see where your coming from.

Cutting to the chase I got the white Jackson DK2M you can see earlier in this thread. Should you get it? Maybe. Do you really really a Flyod Rose? I only got one partly because I already have a decent guitar that has a fixed bridge. If you don't need one don't get one - no changing tunings, long string changing process blah blah. If metal is your thing get one with EMG pickups. They are metal. And added to that if you decide you want them later its really hard to install them. The really metal compeditor to Jackson is Ibanez and in that price range your looking at the RG's 350/370 if my memory serves me correct. Going into the stores it seemed that everywhere (that stocked both brands) there was either an Ibanez fanboy or a hardcore Jackson devotee. They both have their subtle differences but I prefer the Jackson necks and in that price range the Jackson's (IMHO) sort of win because they beat the Ibanez 350 RG's and Ibanez's next step up is significantly more pricey. Also I LOVE the maple neck, it just looks awesome, but thats just me. Hope this helps if not I'm sorry I blame it on the beer

Go and try a few out and see whats plays/feels best to you. Thats the advice most of the guitarists on here have given me as I used to annoy the fuck out of them asking which guitars the best etc...I've matured alot since then and follow their advice

I got a Jackson Kelly in January (early birthday present to me ) and I really like it It shits all over my old RG and the RG350 I tried out a while back. Again, find a guitar (ibanez, jackson, Kramer, ESP, Fender..whatever brand) and if it feels/plays great, get it.

This also some good advice Floyds are great if you like using the bar and want it to remain in tune. If you decide to get a guitar with a floyd, it just takes a little bit of time to get used to etc. Also what I find great about floyds is that If I break a string at the bridge end, I can still re-use that string if I don't have any spares around. Instead of the usual 2 winds for the 6th,5th,4th string like I do with my strat, I put 3 or 4 on there.

Also with floyds, you cant really change tunings alot...Unless you want to reset the tension of the bridge to suit it etc. If you do change tunings alot, you'd better off with a guitar that has a hardtail/vintage trem/string through bridge.

Hope this helps and makes sense.
