Default Dell Vostro Range: Take 2

Dell have announced the new Dell Vostro range, including new 13.3", 15.4" and 17" models.

They've got a enw look, and to be honest, I don't mind the "boxiness" at all. NotebookReview has this to say about the new styling:

"The new Vostro design features a thinner and lighter form factor, but sacrifices some ruggedness by using thinner materials to accomplish this. The new Vostros are also more square and less rounded than before. A glossy finish lid with a metal flake affect is attractive, but will mean that a microfiber cloth is a necessary accessory to remove fingerprints from the lid before that powerpoint presentation gets underway. Some features from the XPS lineup such as touch sensitive button controls with backlit blue LED lighting and a slot loading optical drive have also made it into the new Vostro lineup."

Here's a review on the Vostro 1310 with more pics and a short video review: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4362

The Vostro 1310 and Vostro 1510 are now available in the Australian Dell store. The 1710 is also available now too.

Always been a fan of subtle notebook styling, especially Thinkpads. Dell has finally established a good design philosophy for their notebooks and I think the new Vostro range looks quite smart and simple.

The 1510 has been out here for a couple of weeks now, but only available to people with the e-value code for it (they've been advertising it to their SME customers)

I was looking at the 1200 to use for school, but after reading the review it recommends if you are spending over a grand to get the M1330. After checking it out it seems like a much better option for me than the 1200 or 1310. 2GB of memory and the 2GHz dualie standard, not to mention the 8400M GS seems like a really good package for a 13" lappie for 1.5k.

It'll be interesting to see what the Australian pricing on it will be.

Looks like they're available now!

The Vostro 1510 starts at $848 and the Vostro 1310 starts at $1048.

Looks like the Vostro 1310's going to be a good option for people looking for a cheap 13.3" lappy. Not sure if you'll find too many other options at that price.

Looks like you can't get the vostro 1510 with anything better than a 8400M GS vid card.

Yeah bit unfortunate there. I wonder if they'll add it later on. Keep in mind though that these are meant to be entry level business lappies, so I'd guess that not too many businesses would be in need of higher end video cards.

That's a lot cleaner looking than in the past, although it still looks a bit chunky. Still it's an improvement.
