Default Cable Splitter for Optus Cable & Foxtel

I currently have 1 socket in my room that is used for Optus Foxtel. I want to connect my cable modem to the socket as well. I borrowed a friends cable splitter which he used fine with his SB4101 modem. However with my SB5100 the cable splitter doenst allow the modem to connect. Does anyone know which Cable splitter would work with my SB5100

IIRC they split the signal at the box on your outside wall and not with just a cheap cable splitter.

strange I have two points for optusnet and tv and pretty sure in the roof the cables are just split with the plain old f type splitter (basically a t splitter)

I have a single cable into the loungeroom and a simple splitter box as fitted by a Telstra tech on initial Bigpond Cable installation, the same splitter also comes with a Bigpond cable self install kit .

With Optus cable internet you should be able to plug your modem into any outlet in the network, ie suburb to suburb, makes no difference.

When you say it wont connect what exactly are you having trouble with? You should only need coax with the right connector, ive seen optus setups split 3 times without any probs. though never @ the wall connection. ( different parts of the roof usually 1 split into 2 , then on one of the 2 another split.

I use a basic cable splittler near the wall outlet, altho both on Telstra.

Get into the foxtel system menus and see if there's anything dodgy looking with regard to your signal strength.

Also, what is the cable modem doing, what lights are coming on? You should be able to at least connect via ethernet, plug the IP address of the modem (see google) into explorer, get into the modem's system info and see if there's anything dogde happening with signal strength.

I think it has something to do with the modem, cause he uses a splitter at the wall for his foxtel and optus surfboard sb4101 but when i use it, it just keeps blinking at the Send button.

Holy thread bump Batman.

op, did you end up getting this to work, looking at doing the same to try and get better wifi around the house by moving the modem to where the foxtel point is.

ifso, did you use a specific type of splitter?

dickys have one that says 5-900mhz on it, but my googling has found a 5-2400mhz unit that is apparently "foxtel approved"

can i use either or one of the above splitters? or do i need something else again?
