Default Portable, second-hand Uni laptop...

G'day,

I'm currently at Uni and I'm thinking of getting a second-hand 12" laptop for notes and stuff. Processing power isn't of concern as it would be primarily for word processing, some excel and wireless internet. However, I would really like it to be 12", as it would make carrying it around everywhere much easier.

I have considered waiting for the new Asus EEEPc 900, but I think that $700 is a little expensive considering its components.

Anyone have any ideas or seen any posts for second-hand notebooks?

PS. I can only spend 3 or 400 on it unfortunately :'(

Cheers

Theres a good amount of those dell 12 inch lappies with centrino's going for around that price.

Any if you troll ebay hard enough, you can get those compaq 14.1 inch lappies (V3000 series?) with amd dual core processors for around that price.

If processing power really isnt a concern you could prolly find 12'' ibook G4/ G3's around that price.

AMD2400.

You're paying for the small size. You'll find that 12.1" laptops do generally cost a lot more than 15.4" ones with the same specifications.

Once you've been here for 90 days, you'll be able to access the For Sale and Wanted to Buy forums. Nice deals turn up there every now and then. Apart from that, try Ebay.

That may be a problem. There was a Dell 700m for sale yesterday, but even that went for $550 (it's a pretty old laptop now; Pentium-M rather than Core Duo or Core 2 Duo).

good luck getting one cheaply. theyre a brilliant laptop though.

your best bet is a dell latitude D400. theyre $300 - $400 on ebay, sport a 1.4 - 1.6ghz processor and have a 12.1" display, but even with the extended battery youre only good for 2.5 hours or so.

if you can live with the keyboard size, the 7" eeePC is a good deal for $395 or even less if you had access to the OCAU FS forums

I would get an old model EEE you should be able to find a good deal from someone upgrading or from clearing stock

Buying a second hand laptop usually means paying the price of the laptop again for a battery that holds a charge
