Hi all,
I'm wanting to upgrade my wife's aging Thinkpad 300E (Pentium 2 300MHz, 228KB RAM) laptop as it's getting flaky. Her main needs / uses / requests are: 1. MUST have a trackmouse (whatever it's called, the little red mousey thing, she hates the touchpad). 2. 'fast enough' CPU so she can replace her old (1.8GHz) desktop and use the laptop for editing video and photoshop (possibly we'll buy a dock and external LCD monitor for ease of use / greater resolution). 3. wireless essential. 4. decent 3+ hour battery life. 5. built in webcam would be nice (but not essential). 6. widescreen LCD is not an essential. the laptop would be used for video and photo editing, email and web browsing and some MS Office work (mainly Word and Excel). Now I was very impressed by the Y510-300 (slightly less than $2k) as it's got a nice fast 2.5GHz C2D CPU, 8600GS video, webcam etc. etc. but then I noticed it doesn't have the mouse (ARGH). Does anyone have any recommendations please? thank you. |

Why doesn't she just use a mouse?
Unless she's sitting on the train and is using her lappy. I don't see why a $30 mouse wouldn't suffice. and IMHO, touchpads are okay. They just take some time getting used to.

I think you'll have to go into the business model Thinkpads if you want the nipple.
The R61 might be a your best option. There's a poll on battery life here. People seem to be getting 3+ hours with the 6cell option without any worries. |

Yeah, R61 is your best bet. Although, I managed to grab a T61 for my Mum for $1099 just before Christmas (crazy specials, regular price was $2599...). If you try, can make battery last for 5 hours or so (6-cell)

most thinkpads will have a long battery life with a 6-cell battery. Its what they have become well known for.
ThinkPad T61 I think that would meet your requirements or something close. It also has the nipple mouse that you're after |
