Seachem Stability is what I was told to use. According to the bottle, you can add fish instantly as long as you keep up the recommended dosage for seven days.

Yes, he usually hides somewhere. I've got this big driftwood "tree" that's on top of a rock and he liked getting in between the rock and the wood and I could see him in there, but I finally got around to tying it back on properly so his little hidey-hole isn't the same. It had just been a bit longer than usual since I'd seen him, so I was worried he'd carked it. Luckily not. There are rocks and lots of places he can sit and not be seen, often I'll see him come out when I put the dinner in, but he was just lying low and I hadn't seen him.

I used to use the seachem stability, but since I was introduced to start smart I only use that now. Use it on both my fresh and salt water tanks. 24hr cycle FTW. Only problem is hardly anyone sells it.

Well I've added pebbles & a piece of wood, water currently has a brown tinge, I put conditioner in at the start.

They aren't chemicals, they are bacteria-in-a-bottle.

So then all I have to do is go to a mates and squeeze his filter contents into a bottle and put contents into my tank, $45 per 345ml is expensive.

Actually yes, if you put some filter media out of an established tank into your new tank you will kick start the cycling process.

But only after you've put some fish in.

I guess this pretty much sums it up.

I've just noticed that there is this fluffy stuff on the wood piece I put in there, guessing that's fungus.

If it's white and cloudy, its beneficial bacteria. It often prefers certain wood textures to filter material etc, but will more than likely migrate/relocate to the filter over time.

Much more likely to be the first stage of an algae bloom. In new tanks with driftwood you often see goopy white algae early on.

Algae is never good.

Also if your driftwood has never been soaked before it will give your water a brown tinge.
