Default Shuttle SX38P2 PRO question regarding video cards.

Im going to buy a shuttle SX38P2 Pro soon and i need to find out if a geforce 9800 gx2 will fit in it.

ive looked over a heap of diffrent reviews with conflicting results and can seem to confirm it.

even if it does fit i do relise its going to be a tight fit but with the new case design i think it should fit since it isnt right below the power supply anymore and even when it was my 6800 gt still managed to fit in there.

The case is designed to fix 2 single slot video cards in sli so in theory it should fit a 9800 gx2 taking up both pci express spaces in the case.

i would really like to find out without having to buy them only to have to return the video card doesnt fit.

anyone know if cpl or someone would mind me bringing the shuttle in and sizing one up????

I just purchased one of these, I installed an 8800GTS dual slot card but it
was tight a fit, mainly because of the way the PSU is positioned, the cables
for it come out into the graphics card area.

It’s very unlikely you’ll get a 9800GX2 in there… even though I was able to
install the GTS it kept overheating.

arnt a 8800gts dual slot and a 9800 gx2 around the same size overall????

and as for the overheating is it something that could be fixed by running the shuttle fans at full speeds despite the sound levels and also having the casing off????

also the fan on the video card is on the inside of the case fasing the side case fan correct ???

what kind of temps is it putting out and at what shuttle fan settings???

The length of the card isn’t a problem, the width is… I believe both the GTS and GX2 are the same width.

Personally I think when running the Shuttle fans at full speed they are too loud. Even with headphones on the noise was annoying me! And its not so much the Shuttle fans cooling the card, there more or less just drawing air in one side of the case, dragging it over the CPU and sucking it out the other side.

The problem I had with the GTS overheating was the exhaust vents were right up against the PSU and its cables… and I mean really jammed against them!

I don’t think having the side panel off or on would make a lot of difference for cooling or noise reduction, the panel has a gazillion holes in it for ventilation.

are the 8800gts and 98gx2 fans located in the same position i dont think the cooling vents are in the same spot of the gx2 its got kinda wierd cage looking thing around it?

also i dont really mind the sound up loud i do it all the time on my s35g5 and take the casing off it makes alot of diffrence maybe not so much so in a SX38P2 because they are of a diffrent design.
