Default mini-ITX options

I've got a VIA mITX board, and have seen the various models, and have also noticed some Intel CPU socketed boards too. However I can't see any AM2 socketed mITX boards and was simply wondering whether I've missed them or they don't actually exist.

Reason being that I have other PCs that are AM2 so it's handy for spares/parts (i.e. reduces my costs and helps justify the purchase), and no kind of brand loyalty or anything. CPU power of the VIAs just doesn't quite cut it at the moment.

Hmm not real feature packed, I guess that comes with the phsyical space taken up by the socket in a way. Your prompt info greatly appreciated anyway! I think holding out a bit more for a mITX upgrade might be smart...

intel has two mini-itx offerings atm.

they come with 1.2ghz celeron cpu's and run laps around the via offerings, as well as being about half the price ($70-$120)

Intels current top of the line offering is the :

Intel® Desktop Board D201GLY2 / D201GLY2A

http://www.intel.com/products/mother...GLY2/index.htm

Difference between the two is the D201GLY2A is the refresh to the D201GLY2, the only difference between the two is the D201GLY2A comes with an active cooling fan on the heatsink whereas the older model is passive cooling.

The D201GLY2A doesn't seem to be available here but I just got one from the US for about $120 shipped. Works great in the car.

If your after a AM2 or core2 socket well then i'm not the person to ask

Cheers mate. Pitty the boards graphics are a bit average with VGA only

I've also seen a Intel-socket mITX board from Jetway on the net, seems quite expensive though. Suppose I will just keep looking around and see what pops up, the world of mITX-sized boards is certainly improving.

Well I've almost finished my first "prototype" case using the VIA m/b. Installed Linux on it last night and played around a little. I've gone a bit silly and made the case probably a bit larger than a should have - actual internal AC power supply (i.e. not a DC-DC convertor jobbie), 2x3.5" HDDs and a slimline DVD-ROM, and should be able to fit a multi-card reader in the front panel too. Total size: < 8.5L Hopefully heat isn't too problematic otherwise I'll have to remove one of the HDDs.

So it would be nice to eventually get something more capable. When that happens I think this system will get moved to another room for whatever duty I feel suits and will build an ultra-small system as a HTPC.

what motherboard is it? I dont think a C3 processor is capable for a HTPC unless your playing Xvid/divx, dunno much about the C7, is it much more faster?

Yeah it's just a C3 but I'm not using this board for a HTPC, hence me asking originally about more powerful options (which is what I'll hold out for, for HTPC duties).

This one is copping Linux, duties being file server, web server, mp3/ogg playback (will be located in lounge room), and web surfing. Seems fine surfing non-flash based sites on initial testing so it should be very handy. If it proves capable at more then so be it, but I'm not expecting more.

Always learn when building something like this, so the HTPC version I think will come out much better when I get around to that, I have some interesting ideas for it.

I did come across a discontinued socket 754 mini-itx m/b, but no am2. Meh, I'll just wait and see what happens to the scene, one of the intel offerings will probably turn out best.

There is the Albatron KI690-AM2 (TweakTown review).

And the iBase MI930.

Commell have a couple of mobile Turion boards.

You're a champ. Will look into now. I'm getting that "lack of features", "expensive" and "hard to get in aus" feeling, but I shall not give up!

Default Jetway JNC62K

This looks really interesting for a HTPC with hardware video playback....
Was posted here in the past week...

*splat*

That looks nice. Seems odd to still have a regular PCI slot and not PCIe, but I could happily live with that.

The Jetway J9F2? They're VERY picky with RAM, i've yet to find some that works with mine
