Item: Tuniq Tower 120

Supplier: PCCG

Was: $79.95, NOW: $49.00

Direct link: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=5031

Notes: Excellent C2D cooler, has backplate mounting system which is thread compatible with the TRUE.
Mine needed a bit of lapping to get flat however, which shaved 3 degrees off the load temps. My E6420 was clocked at 3.2Ghz (400x8) with 1.4125V and this kept load temps below 60 degrees in 25 degree ambient.

Cheaper now as the new Xigmateks do a better job with their Heatpipe Direct Touch (HDT) for $10-15 more.
If you only have a C2D with a $50 budget for a new HSF to replace the stocker, the Tuniq is not a bad choice at all.

I am currently using one on my Q6600. Running 1.5v with it on full load @ 3.6GHz, 51-53 degrees celcius.

too bad it only accommodate only one fan. Was really looking for a bargain on Ultra 120 Extreme or scythe infinity.

Also on the lookout for bargain on ATI AGP(2nd hand or not) cards to accommodate GPU folding, like 2900xt etc.

In quest to upgrade my pittance of a folding farm.

I'd hard for me to say, but I would suggest that everyone forget the TRUE and look to the Xigmatek coolers which are cheaper and perform better than the TRUE.

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU Cooler @ PCCG for $60, and includes fan where the TRUE does not.

There is a newer model than the HDT-S1283 which includes 4 heatpipes instead of 3. It does not appear to be released yet, but I have seen a review or two. That would be the best for highly overclocked quads, so keep an eye out for them.

If Thermalright improve the TRUE more (closed sides, HDT, and a decent retention mechanism) then it would be worth the money they are asking for it. But right now, there's better performance for cheaper, which us folders love.

The Tuniq is a good performer for the money.

The HD3850's come in AGP apparently. http://www.powercolor.com/Global/pro...ProductID=1730

now that Xigmatek HDT-S1283 looks pretty good, is it possible to remove the spoiler and attach another fan to it in push/pull configuration though?

if so i am sold on it.

now waiting for someone to post 3850 agp secondhand >_> hopefully it doesn't bottleneck the P4 i have in the comp with AGP board.

Not easily - you'll have to ghetto zip-tie the 2nd fan on somehow. The spoiler is totally optional, you can leave it off. But the primary fan is attached via proprietary 'bits' that I've never before seen in computer parts usage. But the HSF it is relatively flat on that second side, so a 2nd 120mm fan could fit reasonably well.

Also +1 to the Xigmatek suggestion. I was totally hooked on the TRUE120, being reputedly the best air cooler bar none... but the price of the Xiggy, with fan included, could not be beat. It's a huge mofo tho - I have ~1.5cm clearance between the heatpipe protrusions on the top of the HSF and the side panel of my case.

Q6600 $239@ITEstate.

Dunno if Fluidtek's A900@$120 price will last, but CCPU have had it at $140 since just about forever (ie. when Fluidtek had them at $165).

thanks for info, to attach a fan, all they need is to drill 4 holes to accommodate additional fan clip, or just supply another set of their proprietary bit to mount another fan on other side.

No worrie on the clearance, i left my case open anyway, and i am confident Armour JR should have enough clearance, since it is about similiar to the Antec 900.

that said, in the process of trading my 8800gts 640 for HD3870x2 at moment, so might have some chance to try out GPU SMP client. anybody here running GPU client on 3870s?

too bad GPU client does not work on the second half of of the 3870x2 currently as far as i am aware.

For all you guys wondering what the best coolers are, bookmark the FrostyTech Top Heatsinks. These are categorised by lowest temps and lowest noise, on both Intel and AMD platforms.

yeah that is a good CPU cooler site, my only gripe is that if only they do some more extensive research on cooler, like all of those top-ranked cooler with multiple fans in push-pull config.
