Default Laptop $500~~~

Hey guys my sister needs a laptop for word, email and such.

Which laptop would you recommmend for this? Want to spend about 500-600

Any advise?

Close contenders?

Saw $749 units from Compaq and Dell.

Cheers!

only prob with eeepc might be the OS (not sure how comfortable your sister would be on a non-windows environment)

If you do a bit of a search on www.shopbot.com.au you can find some Lenovo for around the $600 range. Also try your local JB Hi-Fi or Officeworks, they often have some fairly cheap laptops there.

Check with a Big W near you for the Lenovo deals, they are real bargains !

They may have one or two left or there may be some more becomming available in the next catalog

You have to ask, they are not on display, ring around a few BigW stores

These Lenovo have a Pentium dualcore processor (fast) not celly (so slow)

Or go for that Dell that sml nail linked

For that extra 150 odd bucks you'll never regret it !

I'm sure the EeePC has a choice of either XP or linux (XP costing a little more).

Also with the EEE, if you have a spare XP license, and a usb key, its not that hard to blow away linux thats already on there, and put windows on it. Vice versa too - I had windows I mine, got a project to do which requires linux, so now its running ubuntu

hit up the secondhand market - youd be surprised what $500 gets you these days. you dont need to settle for a shitty celeron with poor build quality and grainy screen
