Default some questions about eeepc

hey, looks like i'm going backpacking next month so my plan is to sell my desktops and get a small notebook and a 1tb drive in a usb enclosure to travel with

i think the eeepc 700 would be great, i would just like to know how it would go as a media player...

what is the resolution of the VGA output?
is the headphone output good? will it drive a pair of sennheisers?

also, i would like to know if the included power supply works with worldwide voltage

thanks,
tom

EDIT: i just read a review saying youtube playback stutters - but the review machine had only 512mb ram...how is the divx/youtube playback on a 2gb ram machine?

Hmm...a 1TB enclosure is rather bulky and heavy, its not exactly backpacking material. Do you really need a 3.5" HD? Will not a 2.5" HD suffice your needs?

Do you intend to run Linux Xandros or Windows XP?

I myself have an original white EeePC 701, upgraded to 1GB ram and running a nlited version of XP. It is connected via VGA to a 42" Panasonic Viera doing 1024x768. The EeePC can output to much higher resolutions, but you will need to do some further reading from eeeuser.com. A simple 3.5mm audio cable connects from my Plasma to the headphone jack of the EeePC.

Everything works absolutely flawlessly. I would suggest using VLC (available for most OS) for most media, and Real Alternative if you need to play those dreadful rm/rmvb files.

Sound quality wise, its good enough for me.

To be honest, even with 512mb RAM and Win XP, I didn't notice any video stuttering. Just takes a tad longer to load a movie, thats all.

As for the AC wall charger, its pretty much international. Just get one of them travel adapters for travelers.

Have you considered one of those bargain Lenovo notebook computers from Big W

They are a lot more computer than the eeepc 700

Many of my friends have bought the eeepc 700 and, once the novelty wore off, put them in the cupboard and bought themselves a real computer !
