Two states in Aus have 30Mbit cable. Here in SA I sit on 20Mbit or around 2.5m/s max. Faster than the majority of adsl2+ subscribers.
Care face @ that. I want quota, speed and upload. Cable doesn't offer 2 of them.

That is why cable is poo.

dude bigpoind count your uploads, that sux (Telstra don't but are more expensive then Bigpond)

cable sux now, used to be good years and years ago when it was to expensive for average folks to use it and you get all the speed in the world, now it's crap.

dsl is the way to go, uploads don't count and better plans

when i seen that idiotic kid holding that telstra banner i felt like pukeing

So did Soul buy TPG or vice versa? Also where does TwoTel play in the equation?

This new plan will be smoke and mirrors to attract more customers in.

This new plan will be even tighter I reckon with:
+ Tightly throttled P2P speeds
+ Proxied by the great TPG ghost proxy server.
+ The lowest priority traffic.

Great if you want to wait, but I can't see it being that fast.

Like how numerous times I see cracking sync speeds from TPG, but poor data transfer (at about 40 sites+ now). Like you'll sync at 6-20Mbit, and still experience a max of 200k/sec.

Business and VOIP services on TPG are high priority traffic.

Tell iiNet, Optusnet and all the other ISP's that count uploads on ADSL plans that.

I believe that Soul bought TPG, but I'm willing to be corrected.

Two.tel is what staff are calling Soul as it's dying in a similar fashion to One.tel all those years ago.

Agreed.

A friend recently joined up to TPG as it was the only ADSL2+ provider in the area, he syncs at 12mbit but has an actual download speed closer to 6mbit. Even off the TPG server. It's still a lot better than the dial-up he was on though.

Once again, incorrect if you are savvy. 60Gig @ $80/month. The speeds are excellent.

Bigpond is not the only isp to count uploads.

This does not make any sense at all (the second half that is), sorry. But other isp(s) count uploads also.

TBH that's just it. I'm about 3.5km from my exchange, sync at 6Mbit, and I'm happy with my 400-800k/sec speeds on iiNet.

Sure it could be faster, but most of the time you are really only talking about a few seconds (or a minute on a larger file) wait.

I sync @ 12mbit and regularly hit 1mb/sec downloading P2P on the 150gb plan.

I used to sync at 19-21mbit on TPG and used to download 1,000kb/sec quite easily.

Lived in an area with lots of old people though.

With TPG, I sync at 23.3Mbit and when I first signed up had a few months where I easily saw 2.2MB/s. Now it's slowed down to 1.4 to 1.6MB/s I guess as others signed up, but you still cant complain at that

Other way round. SP telemedia was part of Soul pattinson group. They sold it to TPG (a privately held company). Now the owner of TPG, David teoh, is the chairman of SP Telemedia and holds a big chunk of the combined group.

Technically soul bought TPG because of the fact that soul is a listed on the stock market and there are some rules about buying it AFAIK.

The guy running Soul left as soon as they merged though, so that's quite interesting.
