The guy left because, as I said, TPG took over SP telemedia. The best way to look at this transaction is that Souls (SP Telemedia)was 45%+ owned by Soul Pattinson who didn't want it anymore as a subsidiary (they had all the directors). They didn't want their staff on the board anymore, and they didn't want to spend management time on it. So they entered into this transaction to get David teoh to take it off their hands. If you look at the directors now, they are associates of Teoh, apart from the old chairman who is now just a normal director. Soul Pattinson reduced their equity holding from 45%+ to 27% as a result.

Now I'm not an IBer so I can't tell you why they engineered this transaction this way. maybe when a small company takes over a big one they have to do its as a reverse takeover. But the reality is TPG through David teoh now control this entity.

yes i agree that they will slow down the p2p area. I mean what person would use 500gb if they didnt download p2p or linux iso's etc.

Yes there may be large families out there, but i doubt it that they use 500gb.

Yeah thats how I've read it on Whirlpool and It seems to be the case in press releases etc as well. I'd be interested if anyone had some more info on why they did it that way?

Cheers

I tried it with bigpond. Got the most common answer, which is "no"

Like most people I like everything upfront deal . $59.99 for 30gb peak and 20gb offpeak. no hidden charges.

Really? That's certainly not my experience and not that of the large number of posters on WP who became aware of it and tried it with positive results. I have done it now about 5 times in row, and has been successful every time.

What exactly are they saying "no" to? What have you asked for? You have to be realistic in what you want. How do you know the common answer is "no"?

No point having 500gb of limit if you cant get more than 20k/.sec due to congestion

so how do current TPG customers (especially those on the 150gb [40/100]plan) find their service?

how congested is it? are there many timeouts?
what are the pings like (esp. games - both tpg [noob] and non-tpg servers)?
is your sync rate high/decent enough?

i'm on the super 2 plan, it's fine if all you do is download.

pings to my friend's rainbow 6 server in HK times out . playable though but shitty...

all TPG server pings are good but non TPG is hit and miss. download speeds are also inconsistent, it all depends on where it's coming from and at what times of the day. i'll just blame the crappy proxy server.

was with internode for 2 years before TPG. the only thing TPG has over node is the bigger cap and the fact they offer ADSL2 in my area. everything else was better on node.

don't game any more and just need bigger downloads @ the moment. so TPG is working out ok.

Never had any dropouts (that I noticed anyway)

Game pings, not as good as bigpond cable but definitely playable, once in game they are usually a bit lower than listed here too-

I don't play on TPG servers, do others even play on them? If you want, I'll ping some IP's for you if it really matters

Wow I might jump on this new plan soon.

I'm currently on the 150gb plan and I get capped peak and off peak before my month ends too.

If you guys are interested I use utorrent schedule. I have 2.5TB of space spread over 5 hard drives and 4 more spaces to spare thanks to my armor case.

I will get a blu ray burner very soon to fix my storage and backup problems as soon as I fill my case with dirt cheap hard drive space.

My movies cost at least 5Gb each due to the size of 720p source material and for tv shows it is 1.07Gb. For 1080 material those cost 30gb per movie. So you see you can easily use 150Gb per month especially if you are on private trackers.

I don't think 500Gb per month is outrages I think some people actually want it because they need it so that they don't get capped.

Unfortunately my speeds are only 13mbit since I'm far from the exchange but I have a proper central filter and tpg connection is unstable usually during rainy days but I don't really mind otherwise.

Mate you don't need 5Gb per movie..the 700mb rip will do fine. For me 720p mkv rip is about 4.5gb (just the size of a dvd-5 disc) is the most i would download. 1080p=bad value currently.

Haha not bad storage..raid 5? what hardware?

You do need 5gb per movie. 700mb rip = dvd rip
I'm talking about blu ray rips.
You know HD content.

I'm still using my old hardware from my sig.

No raid. Just hard drives for each different category.

One for windows + programs.
One for games.
One for Tv shows.
Two for movies.

1080p is bad value yes. But if I had 500gb it would be good value. Since I've only got two 1080p movies atm.
I need these because my screens are all 1920x1200 for computers and 1080p for the plasma.

With TPG, if you use your onpeak data, does that cap you for the entire period left of the month or does it cap you just for the peak times. ie can you still DL at full speed during off peak times?

Is this just a splitter that is put in before the line is split into the different sockets in your house? sux about the rain .

I agree i like the idea of this plan. Really keen to try out the IPTV service. Don't know how good it is but i think it is very promising.
