Digging up an old thread...how much money would somebody expect to sink into one of these games?

$250 should get you a decent points wise army.

That's not so bad.....do I really need to buy the starter pack, or just the rule book and other bits and pieces I need?

of course there's paints and bits of scenery on top of that, so I figure that's probably another few hundred...

Buy one of those battleforce packs for $150-160 and the paints you need. Dw about the rulebook, probably can find it online or some crap.

Ok cool. Just had a look, battleforces on ebay are about $100 roughly. Good place to get started I think. Hmm, might have to consider getting into this next year...

I have to admit, I'm surprised that OCAU (of all forums!) doesn't have a more active Warhammer thread :P

prob dont wanna come out an admit they play... lol... as for the starter kit, it is a good buy if u want to go either orks or space marines. plus u get a smaller version of the rules so u dont have to lug around the big waste of space of the big rule book. doesnt have alot of the story behind the races but u dont really need it cause its got all that in the codex's.

thou when u get to a bigger army, it does get expensive... u can trust me on that. though if u look around, theres alot of ocau ppl that might get rid of there army's... i know ive got a imperial guard army i dont use..

Alright, I'll fess-up first then.
I have around 3,000 points of Eldar not including Titans (1 each Phantom, Revenant & Destroyer, old Epicast stuff in varying stages of completion)

Been playin' since Space Hulk first came out and Apocalypse ROCKS!

Have a look at Arcanacon 40K on Wargamerau

Out of curiosity. Does anyone have photos of these things they can show and tell. I never got into them at all and probably never will, but I admire the craftsmanship and skill/time people put into painting these things.

Well hello there! I've been into 40k for about four months now, playing Imperial Guard. I've got mates playing Tau, IG and Tyranids and we have an awesome time together.

We played a big 4-way, 1000pt each game a month ago which I'm slowly writing up a battle report for (so far: turn 1, turn 2, and turn 3), and we're planning to do another in the new year (or maybe an apocalypse game, I've got about 3500 points).
