We played a big 4-way, 1000pt each game a month ago which I'm slowly writing up a battle report for (so far: turn 1, turn 2, and turn 3), and we're planning to do another in the new year (or maybe an apocalypse game, I've got about 3500 points).
Good stuff - cheers for the writeup. I'll look through at a more reasonable hour :P

Considering starting off with Warmachine first. Funds are rather limited and Warmachine is a bit cheaper with the smaller army sizes. I figure that way it'll be a good way to find out if I really enjoy this sort of gaming, and if I enjoy hanging out at the various clubs, before I sink big chunks of cash into WH40k

However, despite that the Assault on Black Reach box set seems to provide far more bang for my buck than the Warmachine 2 player battle box! aargh!

Very very different games. My preference is warmahordes over 40k as the rule set is more robust so there is no way of "wrongly" interpreting the rules (like so many do in 40k). Although it may be harder to find a game as the player base is smaller.

Model wise, a standard game of Warmachine (~35pts) uses probably 2-3 large models (warjacks / warbeasts) and 2-3 units - so around 30ish models.

A standard game of 40k (~1500+) would use over 3-4 times that.

Christ guys... get with the times...

Heroscape > *

Plays 100000 times faster then 40k. Has a better more logical and MUCH smaller set of rules.

No templates or crap like that. Very well balanced and a huge community - http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?u=2

If you want a game before you purchase anything drop me a PM.

Never heard of it, but I'll have a squiz. Still at the 'deciding upon which game' point. Looking at Infinity and Malifaux as well

Yeh it is you could basically get things half price and GW were not happy with people importing from the UK, and have effictively killed it and then increased aus prices for good measure which is why my gaming group have all moved on to Warmachine.
