Default Joomla + MSSQL

Hey guys just curious if anyone knew if it was possible to get Joomla running under MSSQL. If this isn't possible what would you recommend as a CMS for MSSQL?

Thanks

Sure its possible to do so, but you would have to go through and make sure all SQL syntax's will work, and all functions are changed to their MSSQL equivalents. Quite a big job.

As for MSSQL based CMS', i dont really know any haha. Maybe google can be helpful here.

Joomla is MySQL out of the box, no need to run anything differently. It's menat for a LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) environment but can be massaged onto just about anything that supports Apache/MySQL/PHP. Which is like everything

You could run MS-SQL but there would be some funniness to it, I have heard installing PHP into IIS is annoying. Haven't tried of late, maybe they have improved it.

At work we use Atlassian Confluence for our intranet Wiki. Works okay, Sharepoint is probably infinitely better for us now.

Otherwise, the CMS Comparison Matrix is probably your best shot. Most MS-SQL CMS's are ASP based, and basically need IIS.

Honestly for the amount of effort you would have to go to make Joomla! work with MSSQL (and more importantly, test it thoroughly) you are better off either:
  • Installing MySQL
  • Finding a CMS that supports MSSQL out of the box

Unfortunately I don't myself know of anything fitting for the later but no doubt there are options out there. At the very worst both of these options cost you no more time/money than what you are suggesting and probably quite a bit less.

What the? What kind of host DOESNT support MySQL? But supports MSSQL? Thats just whack. Find a new provider, you will find for free open source applications MySQL is a lot more widely used.
