Hang on, not to get too far off topic, but SC 2 was always going to be the same game brought up to this generations hardware, with a few new units thrown in here and there.

I don't see the problem with that at all.

Unfortunately expectations by gamers leave developers in the paradox of "Damned if you do, damned if you don't"

Honestly people, stop bitching about the game and enjoy games for what they are, not for what you want them to be. If you think of it like that it can really give you an entirely different perspective on games.

Good news everyone. For those of you that don't have friends that attended the recent press event i have this to tell you. There will be a full 3D intro cinematic when you first load up the game with 2D elements. Then once you chose your character you will see another cinematic for each class and gender (10 all up) that is described as very similar to Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows 2D animation (which was the favourite part of the movie for me).

Also for those of you wanting some good plot info the spoiler below is part of Cain's speech in the intro cinematic

Spoiler below, highlight to read:
At the end of days, the first sign shall appear in the heavens. Justice shall fall upon the world of men. The armies of light and shadow clash across the fields of eternity

Whats a constant connection system for SP got to do with being "damned if you do and damned if you don't"? That's a restriction not a gameplay change.

Are you saying that people would complain if there was offline single player?

Has anyone heard any sort of specs for hardware to run this beast? Just moved out and slightly cursing myself for not picking up new hardware before the move. Good chance I won't be able to get a new PC between now and then and I have a feeling I most certainly will not be able to run this game

The only quotes so far are "if you can run SC2 with no problems you should be fine"

I can't tell you about quality until post beta when most of the graphics tweaking is done.

Any Mac users who have had trouble with the Beta Profile app, these instructions worked for me:

1. Download fresh Opt-in tool
2. Turn off the Mac OS X Firewall. (See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1810 for details in configuring the OS X Firewall.)
3. Completely log out of Battle.net (Click the "log out" button.)
4. Go to Safari>Preferences>Security and uncheck "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" and "Block pop-up windows".
5. Check the "Accept cookies: Always" option.
6. Run the tool.
7. Return settings as you like them.

That sounds awesome. I was a little scared they would drop the awesome pre-rendered cinematics in place for some shitty scene with in-game graphics.

I read that the E3 demos were run on a GTX460 and (not 100% sure on this part) Core2Quads. Don't quote me though, I just remembered it from browsing the D3 forums a while back

This is a Blizzard games aimed for maximum player base and revenue. It, as with WoW will have excellent performance scaling so that they don't lose any potential sales and maximize customer satisfaction.

I was more talking just creating graphically updated versions of the previous game. SC2 is considered by some to just be SC with an HD coating, and many people just wanted Diablo 3 to be a D2 clone with an HD coating, but they've made gameplay changes and people are scared.... that's what I was referring to.

Honestly the constant internet connection doesn't come as a shock and only bothers those that play on their laptop. Here's a solution, pay for the game then hack/pirate it so you can play offline. Win win really. I had no problem with being online for SC2, I won't have any problem for D3

well there probably won't be an offline single player in the true sense of the word for a while as the game is client/server based, with characters and items always being stored server side.

obviously there are ways of emulating the server side and this will probably happen, but in terms of emulating it from your own pc and playing lagless? who knows?

from the twitter feed aussies are on SEA again with access to NA. So again it sucks for people that are with isps that have routing issues.

sadly as a paying customer i will not be able to experience hardcore mode

it will be interesting to see how blizzard address long term replayability. With the ability to change skills instantly, no stat or skill points and the ability to buy items in house for real cash and a shared stash to freely share items, I cannot see any reason to make more than one character of each class?

i also find interesting that there is a large degree of customisation, but no individualisation. IE all the 'hard' or lasting choices such as skill/stat points/binding of items (binding now removed) have been changed to 'soft' choices that can be changed on the fly.

Hopefully they also dont forget PvPers, currently only team deathmatch(?!) upon release but 'considering adding more gametypes in the future'. Also the RMAH is interesting here because PvM it doesnt really matter about gear but PvP you can actually buy yourself a better character since the only real form of meaningful customisation is the loot.

i am not whining, merely posting observation about what blizzard and gamers have to face over the long term game environment. I am really looking forward to playing the game, and with the new systems and mechanics they are trialing.

currently there are no mechanics or plans to stop leechers, so that is probably what i will be playing for the first few months. (maxing out magic find on my char and staying close but out of harms way behind characters a few levels above mine).

After looking around for a diablo 3 community recently I never actually found any decent aussie sites.

So I decided to actually make my own! I'm currently maintaining an up to date news page with a bluetracker and twitter feed. I have also added some forums for dicussion.

The site is pretty new and it more a labour of love, but I would love it if it grew into a decent aussie community.

http://d3scrolls.com

Comments are welcome as well. I'm always looking to improve it.
