Alright the Squeezebox is a done deal.

Since it looks like the NAS will have to be an online order, I think I'm pretty keen on the qnap TS-209. If someone can tell me it will work with my existing Vantec NexStar 3 USB/eSATA enclosure and I can buy the new HDD's later then I'm sold!

Dunno bout the QNAP but the ReadyNAS can share USB attached devices.

I *think* it can from the qnap site.

btw. I've just read a bunch of really bad reviews about the WD My Book World Edition II: slow, hot, noisy, slow, software is restricted demo version only...

I saw the ReadyNAS Duo in powerhouse, they wanted about $690 for it i think!
I dismissed it at that price and didn't give it much of a look, does it come with big drives installed already?

Yes you can only buy it with a drive installed.

Argh.. You lot might have twisted my arm with this ReadyNAS Duo. If it works half as good as the reviews and I don't still have to get a HDD to put in it then maybe it's worth it. At least I know where I can get it for $200 less than DSE

I don't think the Pro model has anything extra to interest me over the standard TS-209 (active directory etc).
It's pretty much a rundown between qnap TS-209 and Netgear ReadyNAS Duo, all the other options have been eliminated. I'm just figuring out whether there's anything else to go by except price, and one of them doesn't need byo HDD.

The other thing is just checked it qnap has a 1yr warranty where as the netgear has a 3yr one

Here is a review on the readynas duo. Yes there is not much differance from the 209 to the pro for the qnap But there is 256mb in the 209 II and 209 pro II. I need to get a NAs storage for my mum for all her stuff. Still not sure which one but it is between the qnap 209 II and the Readynas Duo.

Here is another review on the qnap 209 pro

Here are also a couple of reviews on the readynas duo.
