Hi guys,
I know we are all waiting for the S750 5.1 version but saw this review on the S730 2.1's on the tektime website. http://www.tektime.com.au/index.php?...&id=229&Itemid I personally use the S330's which are great for my small room and $$. Would love a set of these though going by the review. Are these a contender against Logitech & Altec?? |

These look real nice.
Would the sound from these be better than the ones i have now? (I know they're 5.1 but i dont plug in the two rear channels because i got nowhere to put them). These are what i have now: Logitech z640 http://www.laaudiofile.com/z640.html The logitech's have: # Total output power: 71.2 Watts RMS. # Subwoofer power output: 25.7 Watts RMS # Satellite speaker power output: 45.5 Watts RMS (Front/Rear: 2x7.3W, Center: 16.3W) # Total peak power: 140 Watts # System frequency response: 35Hz - 20kHz # Signal-to-noise ratio: >75 dB # Input impedance: > 5,000 ohms Whereas these Edifiers have: * Power output: RMS 2 x 75W + 180W (THD=10%) *Subwoofer Power (Watts RMS) 180 * Signal to noise ratio (amplifier): >=85dBA * Input sensitivity: PC: L/R: 600mV +/- 50mV SW: 300mV +/- 30mV * Frequency response: L/R: 166Hz ~ 20kHz SW: 20Hz ~ 154Hz I'm not sure how to read these specs. Would the Edifier have more bass?

IMO a good set of 2.1's will always be better than an incorrectly used 5.1 set.
I would say the Edifier S730's would give you a much better sound than your current Logitech setup (and better bass) |

it will be interesting though to see how the S750's 5.1 system rates when released around Dec up against the Z5500's........ |

interesting points made.
I'm thinking about it, but after spending over $3K for my new pc, im struggling to cough up another $450 for a set of 2.1 speakers...i want some good ones because right now i am using improperly set up 5.1 speakers from like, 5 years ago! pc case gear are selling these edifiers for $430!!

I just placed an order for the model down from them at Pc Case Gear - Edifier S530 2.1 speakers.
At the moment, I am using my tried and true Altec Lansing 621's. I ain't ever found speakers for the money that I like as much as these Altec Lansing 621's, so I never attempted an upgrade - until now (of course). Will give my impressions when I get them next week (website says ships in 24 hours). |

My S530's arrived today.
Very solidly built all around and they are crystal clear at high volume with my flac files. The sub is not boomy and overpowering. At default sub volume, the sub is actually pretty quiet and the level had to be bumped to get it where I wanted it. The speakers are really well balanced with the bass/treble at default settings. Anyone that wants to bump/lower these settings to suit their ear will find they respond well to adjustment. The grills rest on metal posts that sit in the speakers themselves. They sit very firmly on these posts. The grills don't kill the sound if left on. Speaker wire is connected by tab black and red pressure connectors. With the speaker connections at the back of the sub, the connectors are the click-in red and black type that lock in place when fully open to accept wire and then click into place when pushed closed. The connectors on the speaker are the spring loaded ones that you hold open with your fingers to put a wire in, and then release the pressure on the plastic connector tab so that the connector applies pressure to the wires. The speaker wire is clear insulated copper and silver wire and not too thin for the speakers at all. The desktop controller connects at the back of the sub to a serial port. The audio out from the sound card connects at the back of the sub to RCA R & L. There are both PC inputs and CD inputs (both RCA). The light on the desktop controllers display is adjustable. There is also a remote controller that does all the desktop controller can do (comes with battery). During operation, the heatsink at the back of the sub wasn't even noticably warm. There is an on/off power switch on the back of the sub and a fuse. They are definitely better than my Altec Lansing 621 speakers and absolutely a worthy upgrade. |

The S750 wipes the Z5500 in terms of sound quality. And they have proper tweeters etc. I can't remember were i read it.
Whens the S750's come out?

I think therein lies your problem. Also have to keep in mind that frequency response isn't linear and tapers off quite quickly at the extreme ends.
