Default Golden Axe - Beast Rider.

So Sega has seen fit to revive this old chesnut - wonder if it'll live up to the legacy?

due - September, 2008

Quote:
One of SEGA's most popular franchises storms onto the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system. As the unstoppable and sexy Tyris Flare, players will engage in vicious melee combat both on foot and atop massive mythical beasts, savaging enemies with blades and magic on a quest for vengeance. This highly-anticipated re-imagination is guaranteed to leave the fans reeling with incredible graphics and never-before seen character skills and abilities.

• Beast-Riding and Savage Combat: Players will cut down enemies while riding on an array of deadly, magical beasts.
• Brutal Melee Action: With swords and axes, players will unleash barbaric killing moves and dismembering attacks.
• Spells & Magic Weapons: Weapon upgrades and powerful unlockable elemental-based spells and magic will give players the advantage in battle.
• Harsh & Desolate Landscapes: There is a huge, ravaged, destructible world to explore... and survive.
• Classic Golden Axe™ Legacy: As the young warrior, Tyris Flare, players will encounter familiar friends and foes, and collect power-ups from pesky gnomes in a magical world of beasts.
• New Story Details Revealed: Players will discover events that took place before the original Golden Axe™ storyline as Tyris Flare, the famous half-Gladiator/half-Barbarian heroine, begins the epic quest to avenge her tribe.

Doesn't look to have the same charm as the original, personally I would have loved to see it follow the same trend as the original game (ie side scrolling, but with updated visuals, etc).

original was good due to the fact the genre was still reasonably new, co-op multi-play and the cool music

Wow can't wait... certainly going to buy this one... I've been playing the original quite a bit recently... you just can't go wrong with it.. such a classic. I am a bit disappointed though that this doesn't have the green dwarf or the blue barbarian. Perhaps they are planned for an expansion pack if all things go well.

if the game is anything like that trailer, it will be shit!
I'm so sick of the cliche's... "driven by revenge", the figure of the female character (tits, ass, revealing costume), and also just her posture, the hyper masculinity of everything else that isn't a "chick".

So that's just the trailer, I know, but it just hints to me that Sega are being gutless.
They are reviving a brand (in marketing terms) they think they can cash in on, and I bet they just doing everything else by formula, target their demographic, and not give us anything too original or admirable.

meh, maybe it's late and I'm cranky, but pffffffttttt

sega failed to re-kindle the sonic magic in sonic the hedgehog (ps3, 360)

sega failed to re-kindle the NiGHTS magic in nights - journey of dreams (wii)

sega failed to re-kindle the sega rally magic in sega rally revo (360, ps3)

ergo, i dont have high hopes for sega to re-kindle the golden axe magic in golden axe - beast rider (360, ps3).

I spent hours and so much money on the original in arcades.

This doesn't really look anything like it, but interesting none the less.
