If official Pentax AU prices do go up, I think there will be even more people buying from the US, especially with the strong dollar of late.

Well it's your email vs the statement on the CK Kennedy Website

SIGMA AUSTRALIAN WARRANTY ON GREY IMPORTS

C.R. Kennedy & Co P/L will only undertake warranty repairs on products sourced through us. All products imported directly from overseas and resold are not covered by our warranty. This includes purchases through ebay and through grey importers such as www.camerasdirect.com.au,
www.d-d-photographics.com.au and www.globalmediapro.com.

Mark Harrison from www.camerasdirect.com.au has been directly advised by Sigma Japan that C.R. Kennedy, the only authorised Sigma agent in Australia, will not cover warranty on Sigma products bought through www.camerasdirect.com.au

We will match, through our authorised Sigma dealer network, any legitimate advertised internet
price on Sigma lenses by these grey importers.

These prices do not include traditional pre-sales and after sales service normally given by your local retail store. We suggest that you research the product thoroughly before making any purchase.

It also says on the CRK website;

Quote:
Q. I bought my camera outside Australia and repair is needed within 12 months of purchase.

A. You must provide a properly completed International Warranty Certificate and purchase receipt, which can only be provided by the retailer or distributor in the country of purchase. C.R Kennedy & Company cannot provide free service without sighting these documents.
So if you can get an International Warranty card you should still be able to get stuff fixed under warranty.

EDIT: I'm assuming (eep) that it also refer's to lenses.

I didn't say that and neither did tHRiCe.

just spoke to Paxtons in Sydney near Wynyard Station and they said that I should speak to CRK first and they would send the lens to the store and then I could pick it up.

They also said that their purchase price for a Sigma 24-70 F2.8 was ~$600, so chance of them price matching unless they had the stock from CRK.

That is what I linked the Sigma rep to, she replied and just said "thanks I will pass this on to Japan".

Either way I'm getting my lens repaired free cos I know the WA CRK boss, but others should if Sigma claim an international warranty.

Finally... CRK (via Teds) are going to match B&H price (+shipping) for the Metz flash
So down from the Aus RRP of $740 to $450.

Metz 58 AF-1 for Canon.

Apparently it was a "only for me" offer.
They probably had to go to a lot of trouble to get that price from Metz

I think that's really stupid, if a manufacturer offers a product, their pricing should be dynamically in tune with changing markets. If this were the case every distributor (and consequently reseller) could offer true value to the customer along with proper support.

Agreed, but most people don't know any better. Put it this way, they haven't been forced into lowering their prices. As I've already found out by complaining to them about Australian prices, all they did was tell me I was wrong and that noone has ever had any issues with Digital Camera Warehouse and that US prices were about to go up...

Sorry to dig up up an old thread but what email address do you email the question to? All I can find on the website is that auto emailer form?

Not that this is much help, but I used to work for a retailer in Aus that sold cameras. When I left I took a copy of all the camera and electronics repair contracts. It mysteriously disappeared from my bag the day I left the store...

I'd also love to know the contact details of CR and/or an Olympus distributor in Australia...
