It will be interesting to see where they price the replacement. I'd guess $1000 more than the current 5D. Although hopefully not as expensive as the 5D was on release ($5000+)

I cant see that happening. Now Nikon has the a lower spec FX model with the same sensor as its flagship I am expecting something special. Special like the 5D was when it was released.

I can't wait to see the new 5D (not that I'd be able to afford it). Hopefully it'll be another gem that'll last years amongst it's peers.

I don't think Canon will have an entry level FF model (3D). There's already too many models available and it'll lead to alot of overlap between models.

True, but there also seems to be a lot of overlap between the 450D and the newly-announced 1000D, so who knows what they might do...

I would be happy if the new 5D or what ever it is christened stayed around the 12MP mark. Seems to me to be a bit of a sweet spot.

Well we'll know in a week what the 5D successor and 50D (40D successor) specs are. 5D successor confirmed for September.

Shhh everyone will hear you! I'm not meant to know *any* of this. Pretty much no one outside of Canon Japan knows details yet, but wait til Friday.

If the 'new 5D' had the same low noise technology as the latest high end cameras but kept the same pixel size it would be superb at low light and make the Nikon D3 even take notice.

As in Friday 25th July? This ought to be interesting.

I think Canon needs to put less effort into making LCDs bigger. The 450D has such a huge LCD that it takes up almost the whole back of the camera leaving very little room for buttons. They don't even have the column of buttons down the left side! I have the 350D and it would greatly hamper me to not have that column of buttons - would be much harder to use the camera two-handed. Also, having larger LCDs meant the loss of the status LCD - my biggest gripe with the 400/450D. Using the main LCD for this is not a good idea. Oh, and there is no point in having a larger LCD if said LCD does not have more pixels as well.

I have been waiting for ages for the 5D replacement. While there is nothing wrong with the 5D, I don't want to buy something when a replacement will be out "soon". My 20D still serves me well, but I want FF.

When it's announced I'll be putting my name down on the waiting list, same as I did when the 20D was announced.

I wonder how many 20D-slingers are waiting desperately - I certainly know some.
