Default Touch Screen LCD Window Mod

I have done a lcd mod in my old case but the lcd was a very low res monitor (480 X 234 or something like that ) and was not good for any thing other watching movies

http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=578958

now i have changed cases and im looking for abit of an upgrade

instead of putting the lcd in the top of the case i shall be putting it in the lower half of the window of my case. there are 2 reason this is : A. there is not space on the top of my case nor the front B. thats about the right height and position to use at a lan with the pc on the desk.

im planning to do this mod in a modular design

im going to cut a large hole in the plexi window almost whole width of the window and a bit larger than the height of the monitor, then over this a slightly larger bit of plexi which will the be attached to the window with bolts of some sort

im going to make 2 of the cover plexi panels , in one i will mod the touch screen lcd and into the other 2 X 120mm fans ( which is y the hole will be very wide)

for lans i will use the lcd and at home i will use the fans ( my case sits on the floor at home which makes the lcd useless not to mention that i use dual monitors at home as well and there will not be a connection for the touchscreen lcd)

i have this touch screen on order and will have more updates when it arrives
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWN:IT&ih=003

i want to try and get the plexi laser cut so the lines are really straight and have a clear finish and just wonder if any one knew of a place that did laser cutting in perth and how much it would cost ?

rousing response guys

any way because i could not find anyway near me that did small laser cutting jobs i have decided to do the mod the easy way until i do

i got the monitor a few days ago

here it is in pieces

testing after fitting into plexi ( cut hole in the same way that i did last time)

cut some holes in the back of my case for the cables ( i might mod the usb and power into the case later )

bios post with screen fulling working

in windows fully working ( which toke a bit of effort as the provided drivers where dodgy and the link on the manufacturers site was dead )

So touch screen works through the DVI? Or through USB?

Looks like just a vga connector, while using a dvi to vga converter on the video card. And i assume a USB cable for the touch system.

No external monitor required for the system, so no extra lump sitting on your desk. No keyboard required either. Less clutter, so it's a sort-of headless system, but sort of not.

I think it's great - well done OP.

Integrate a keyboard into the roof of the case for a headless (and tailless) system!

on-screen keyboard solves that problem

my heat sink is too big ( not enouph room between the heat sink and the case panel )

i would have done this as its cheaper to find a 15 lcd and a touch panel kit than a 8" touch screen

thats the next step ( i want to find a dead plug that will fit as i dont want to butcher the one i have)
i have a usb header so i can plug the usb into the mobo but i still need to find a useless usb cable

I think he was joking, and meaning something along the lines of putting a small coal fired power plant inside your case to produce power for the computer.

Awesome mod, nice and straight foward too.

Funsies. I'd say it was one of those "I wonder if...." moments that sparked this mod.
