Default V5 5500 AGP - retro gaming at it's finest, post your flashbacks

Put a retro gaming rig together over the weekend and spun up Diablo 2, Quake 3, Dues Ex and Powerslide on my old Voodoo 5 5500AGP. Reason was to play Diablo 2 under Glide for fun with the recent announcement of Diablo 3.

Anyone else got any favorite Glide games they played?
What was your beast back then?

Put together a P3 1Ghz on Intel 815 chipset, 2 x 256MB SDRAM PC133, 400W PSU, Xitel Platinum A3D 2.0 sound card (using optical out to my Logitech speakers ), Adaptec AHA-1200A raid card with 2x 40GB 7200.7 Seagates stripped and a AGP Voodoo 5 5500 graphics card.
Running Windows ME , with tweaks from www.msfn.org guys

nice man was going to do the same thing here, got a P3 1ghz, 512mb ram, mobo(infact my mobo has the 815 chipset as well, lol) and case etc just need to get a Vodoo AGP card. Plus i have a old Creative Live 5.1 sound card sitting around somewhere.

I think noticed some 5500's on eBay for cheap not that long ago.

oh post screens of D2 in Glide mode(when playing i mean, not just the Menu screen)

Good times. Have you tired firing up Deus Ex on a more recent machine? It looks great running in wide screen (as long as you get the appropriate patches).

HL Episode 1 (followed by the FV) was my first ever Glide enabled game. Initially the first card, a Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix 16MB AGP, wouldn't install properly, then the next day (longest day of my life heh) I swapped for a stop-gap Creative Banshee 16MB PCI (hence the stop-gap), then took it back and replaced it with a cheapy Atrend Helios Banshee AGP, which is still here.
Could never afford the Canopus 5D (V1 hybrid) or any of the Voodoo 1s or 2s. Too young to pay $500 & $800 for cards like those.

I have 2 rigs under the house. 1 with a P3-450 BX & another P2-333 LX, and both use 12MB Voodoo 2's & Vortex 1 cards. For some reason they are stable by themselves but won't SLI. Maybe overheating. Not sure..

Last time I used one was for a good ol' game of Unreal 1. Got as far as collecting the 8-ball & had a lot more fun than expected. Would be 4-5 months ago since using it. Hope it still goes.

It was a hard transition to D3D thanks to Glide having superior image quality. Games felt smoother, even though overall they weren't. Glide was a little more jerky than D3D, but D3D carried a more consistent frame rate, making sure the minimum wasn't as low as Glide. My opinion anyway.

Over the last couple of years I've been collecting Voodoo cards, including Banshees, Voodoo 2 8 & 12MB & a couple of Voodoo 3 AGP cards.

Nah I haven't actually, sounds like fun though cause the game is just how I remembered it but looks better on the V5. Back then I was using 2x 8MB Voodoo 2's SLI.

I had bucket loads of troubles getting the rig stable with Windows 98se on a 440BX platform, Windows ME gave more stability but the explorer kept locking up when copying lots of data on the AHA-1200 raid both with 98se and ME. I had thrown the towel in but in a last ditch effort found that the 815 chipset mobo supports 3.3v and 1.5v AGP x2 and x4 cards, and I had an Intel one I was going to throw out. Rebuilt it again with ME and can't believe how solid it has been

I remember HL1 and Kingpin. I still have the .iso's for them all but the main thing was to play Diablo 2 in Glide again. I'll post some screenshots

This could break my WoW addiction (till WotLK anyway)

Ah, good times.... Who remembers glide versions of quake, thomping the software versions at the time - 640 x 480, WOW! :P
Its funny how it looks so bare inside, isn't it? The cooling for example...

Carmageddon too, wouldn't have nearly been as fun without its silky smooth glide version to play and giggle like a (literal) school kid on.
