Default Playstation 3 Trophy Thread | Trophy Whores Apply Within!

Welcome to OCAU's Trophy Thread

UPDATED - October 2009 ... "OCAU Trophy Whores" list updated *see bottom of post*

Mmmm Trophies... you know you want them!

History:
With Firmware 2.40, Sony introduced 'Trophies' into the Playstation 3 feature list. Whilst initial trophy support was slow - only one title (Super Stardust HD) supporting trophies at 2.40 release time - trophy support is set to expand to become a defacto feature of new games.

Trophies are divided into four categories - Bronze, Silver, Gold and the coverted Platinum. Trophies boost your "Gamer Level" which can be compared with your friends via the XMB. You can also see any PSN friend's total count of bronze, silver, gold and platinum trophies as well as directly compare games that you both share.

Scope:
The point of this thread is to cater for all trophy discussion, announcements, tips/techniques and general bragging rights.

There are several dedicated trophy websites popping up already, so I won't be attempting to list trophies per game but will make reference to as much outside info as necessary.

Finally the PS3 has one of the best features of the 360.

Unlocked a couple of achieve- oh, I mean 'trophies' in SSHD last night. Might go buy Uncharted now it's cheap and has them.

SO

i have uncharted and got 58 of the 60 treasures etc
does that auto update? i played it today and got no trophies from my old game
fair enough, u could cheat and use a gamesave from somewhere
but then i didnt get any bonuses for first kill etc?
so do i need to start another campaign?

You need to start a new game completely from scratch because of the gamesave downloads that you speak of. Some games like Burnout avoided this due to linking saves to the PSN id, making trophies retroactive.

As Zerstorer said, yes you need to start a fresh game. Just today Three Speech have a detailed interview with Naughty Dog the makers of Uncharted. A pretty interesting read, here are some of the highlights:

Quote:
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to convert your existing Uncharted Medals into Trophies, though, as Lemarchand explains: “We didn’t want to lock the Uncharted save-game: we wanted to make it so you could copy it onto a Memory Stick, take it around to your mate’s house and show him where you had got to. That meant that we had to make it so that you had to start a new game if you wanted to get all the Trophies, otherwise we’d have opened ourselves up to cheating, people copying save-games and so on. We do have a system in our new-game system: when you start a new game from the very beginning, you can bring over any Medals that you’ve got. Which means you could start over, you’d keep your personal progress, and you’d get to unlock the Trophies at the high end of the spectrum. So people would see that you were getting the whole set in the game.”
Quote:
Naturally, the Trophy system will really come into its own when PlayStation Home is up and running, and we all get Trophy rooms, around which we can wander, marvelling at our sheer gaming brilliance.
Quote:
Lemarchand can talk about another interesting subject, though: the prospect that, in the near future, multi-platform PS3 games will outshine the versions running on rival consoles: “There’s a set of tools called Edge that were developed on the Naughty Dog premises, actually, by a group of very, very senior games programmer, some from Naughty Dog and some from elsewhere. I think it’s tremendously visionary of Sony to make these tools, which are largely low-level libraries.”

“That’s why we think we’re probably only using 30 or 40 per cent of the power of the PS3 right now, and there’s this great, untapped potential. All third-party developers can get the Edge libraries for free and are going to be able to use them in their own ways, to get more and more and more out of the PS3 over the years.”

Picked up a copy of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune yesterday for the new low price of $50 and liking it a lot, although the controls can be a bit vague. Spent a bit of time on it this morning and I can tell you that this trophy collecting business is very addictive.

Yeah it works (nice collection ) but I think it's better if you link it to your profile so when people click on it they can see your details straight up.

Ala...

Hey I just figured out we can add these to the OCAU PSN Wiki! Check out my entry now
