Power consumption is actually around the 20w mark, which is still half of what typically constitutes low power.

I'm tempted to grab one for offpeak downloading... might wait for prices to drop though.

Another option is buying an older eeepc 701 and hooking an external hdd up to it. Since they're so cheap now ($299) it's not such a bad idea

I know it's an older chipset and all but you get a built in keyboard an monitor as well!

I was seriously considering this route to be honest... but the sleek form factor of an eee Box is kinda hard to resist... plus I don't think the old 701s power consumption is as low as the eee Box???

Read a good review just before.. http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/15234

Main disadvantage seems to be the GMA950 chipset for any serious graphics, or higher than SD video playback. For basic internet and word processing seems fine though, or even a small file server...

$420 is insane though.

Price needs to come down alot; there is nothing "special" in it.

As I pointed out in the earlier thread for the eeebox, I think the Shuttle K45 is much better value. $420 is ridiculous!

yeah I think the price is a bit much, maybe about ~$300 is about right. Although compared to the K45, it is much smaller, quieter and comes ready to run out of the box.

I agree... and lets not forget dual core atoms are just around the corner (later this year is all i know, my guess is 3 months). The current single core Atoms are going EOL Q2 next year, so I assume Intel thinks of this first Atom as a stop gap measure.

I don't think this "netbook" or "netbox" craze has stabilised to the rest of the puter field yet. I reckon if i bought a device now, i would be disappointed in 3 months time. Of course it's everyone's call what they decide to do here and now.

Under 300 for this EEE Box and I would bite and could "write it off" after 3 months.
