Arrow Projecta incar laptop power adapters - voltage out by .5 of a volt

My Dad has a Compaq Presario C700 C793VU, now the power adapter for it is 18.5Volts and 3.5Amps. I've got a Projecta 3500mA Laptop Power Adaptor (see http://www.projecta.com.au/catalogue...4/asset_id/138 ). But the voltage adjustment is in incriments of 1 volt. So I can set it at 18 or 19v, but not 18.5. Does this mean I can't use it with this laptop, or can I just set it to 18v and try?

should be fine on either 18 or 19v.

what you need to watch is the amperage. not enough, and its not good for the power circuitry in the laptop

in your case though it seems to be fine...

The next size up is 6.5 amps (http://www.projecta.com.au/catalogue...4/asset_id/139). Does this mean that it puts out 6.5amps regardless or that this is the maximum current that it can output? i.e. if I connected a 6.5 amp one to my laptop whose power pack outputs 3.5amps, wouldn't my laptop be damaged, or would it only draw the 3.5amps that it needs?

yeah thats the max it can provide. the laptop will only draw as much as it needs

it will be fine
