Default Upgrading parts (RAM) in laptop

i have a toshiba a100 and wouldnt mind putting more ram in it... currently has 1gb in it (never been opened as far as i know)

any tips for opening it all up myself? have only ever dealt with desktops - is it the same sort of situation, ie open up the case and just clip a new one in?

same question for new/larger HDD... have done this a million times with desktops but i have 'the fear' of laptops...

usually the HD are on a caddy and on the edge of a note book, i know this is fact for my partners Viao unsure of your product but doing an online search for that models service manual may help...

as for ram same deal it maybe easy to find..or it may be in a wierd location....

TIP: small philips head screwdriver.

the underside has a cover you can remove to get access to the toe sodimm slots which will support modules up to 1GB each as far as I can tell.

Also underneath is the hard disk cover which is on the left toward the front.

If you are going to shove in a new HDD and install a fresh copy of your OS make sure you grab all the drivers you need first; laptops usually need a few more drivers than the average desktop.

A100

Cheers

http://www.fastrackcomputing.net/for...read.php?t=683

Found this looking for images of the back of the A100.

The trickiest thing is actually putting the sticks in. They need to go in on like a 70 degree angle. So you line it up, lie it down as much as you can, push it in, then lay it down flat. It'll make sense once you see it in front of you

undid one screw

pushed the ram holder thing, it clicks and pops up at 45 degrees

removed old ram, replaced with new

click down

screwed screw in

switch on computer, all done

took literally 2 minutes - incredible.

It is literally this easy. Do this regularly for customers buying laptops with only 1GB RAM in them. Even do it on the counter in front of them.
