imagine dual 9800GX2's... on a 24" monitor, the 9800GX2's outperform the GTx 280's

yep I'm with the other guys, there's no point of "upgrading" to the 4870 x2; unless money isn't an issue, but it term of value, you wouldn't get betting much bang for your buck. I a 9800gx2 as well and i can't deny the fact about upgrading to the 4870 x2, however i see little reason as for my case i game very little and when i do game the 980gx2 does a very good job anyway....

If the games you play run as you would like, then there is no need.

9800gx2 only has 512MB so its not really good at 2560x1600, i know coz i have a 30".....monitor that is.
I will be going either;

1x 4870x2 + 1x 9series GPU for physX

or just 2x 4870x2 (and hopefully they too will do physx on GPU)

still mowing around the reviews and seeing what specific games will run better on each GPU (like Clear Sky and Far Cry 2)

Actually i've already played the Clear Sky demo on this card, and as soon as the sun starts rising and shooting it's beams across the country side, its starts lagging up, and the camp fire's have invisible flames.

4870X2 as TOX has said is pretty much for massive resolutions. You're not gonna need it at your average 1680... :P

Grab an X2 then, if you so wish. :P
Your money.

It's also CPU dependant though, a quad at 2.66 will bottleneck 4850's and 70's... oc them to 3.6 and theres no issue though xD
(only a little bottleneck)

You still won't be able to play Crysis maxed at native res on the 4870X2 either...
