Default Toshiba laptop screen dying

So, I have a Tecra A6, it's a few years old, but chuggs along ok, but the screen is dying.

Yes, it's about time for a new one, but I need it to hold out a few more months while I get my crap together and buy a new lappy.

Everything is fine, but the screen back lighting is dropping out, and, at times, there are strange colours creeping up the screen, taking it over, a quick slap fixes the issue, but, eventually, it creeps back.

My girlfriend has a broken HP, it has the same sized screen - any chance it's as simple as just swapping LCD panels?

I'm willing to bet there are unique plugs, compatibility issues with power supplies and so on, but you never know your luck in the big city.

You'd most likely be right on the money there. Not to mention different mounting holes down the sides or corners to mount the LCD panel to the screen hinge / bracket...

One way is to physically have a look at both yourself... or alternatively you can also hit up the eBays to see if anyone is selling a spare panel for each (to identify what they actually look like with no plastic bezel around them, with any luck the seller might have a shot of the back with the connections)

maybe just a loose cable?

Also, there's a great dismantle guide here if you're looking for one. I've got an A6 myself
