Default compaq evo n1020v screen problem

The kids have an older compa evo n1020v laptop, and the screen has started playing up..The screen has lost about 1 third of the viewing area, and it has vertical lines that jump about if you tap the screen...

I've pulled the screen out and removed /reinserted the video cable but it hasnt made any difference at all..
.
Is the screen stuffed and is it worth replacing if it is?
