Default Suggest me a 17"+ laptop with lots of grunt, and a good screen. Needs Dual-Link-DVI.

Hey guys,

I need to buy a 17"+ laptop in the next day or two. Basically just want to know which model is the best.

I dont play games or anything, but it will be running programs that use SQL databases so it will get quite raped.

It also needs to have Dual Link DVI output to run a 30" Dell LCD at some point.

Im considering the Dell 17" XPS notebooks.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

so why do you need a laptop specificly are you going to be moving it around? and if battery life maters you are going to get bout an hour from the dell xps 1730 or anything comparable.

all im saying is unless you need the ability to move it around a desktop with much better specs can be had for the same price

Ended up buying an XPSM1730, for $3000 with options a slightly bigger primary HDD (200 instead of 160) and a carry bag, and Windows XP. Two friends already have them for the same purpose and they seem to do the job.

I looked at the Macbook Pro but for similar specs it was almost $5000, which is ridiculous.

Other than looking very sexy and being more slimline I could not see what made them worth it.

I will let you know how it goes.

I must say Dell sales call centers are absolutely terrible. It took me 18 minutes to finally get to somebody who then took my number to call me back. Five different operators were switched through to me and they all kept asking me for my name, number, and if I was purchasing for busines or personal use, and would then switch me to somebody else who did the same thing, but not before putting me on hold! It was ridiculous!

Anyway, they promised it would be here by Sunday, even though they normally say 7-10 days. Im flying out of the country on Sunday and need it, so I sure hope so!!

As I told you in PM I hope they did not make an empty promise to you that you will receive it before Sunday just to make a sale
