Default Dell M4200, M4400, E4200 dual monitors

Dell is telling me that if I want to run dual external monitors vis e/port plus then the max resolution of the external screen is the same as the max resolution on the Laptop screen.

This sounds really odd to me. Anyone got some advice? I would assume the dependency would be on the graphics card rather than the physical laptop LCD.

Opinions?

Based on this if i want to run dual 24" @ native then I would need the M4400 which support 1920x1200 on the laptop screen.

rubbish.

we have many clients running D420 (1280x800) with 22" (1650x1080) external screens.

some run dual (lappy and monitor)... some just monitor.

unsure about E family specificially.... but surely they wouldn't regress.

yeh we got some E6400 + E4300's. All of them using either some configuration using laptop screen + external monitor.

All working fine, and all output correctly.

If my D630 i have works fine on a 22", then there is no reason the "Most updated technology" shouldnt either.

Silly Dell, selling themselves short

I ended up with E6400 and advanced port replicator. Using 2 * 24" external screens. Works well with laptop monitor disabled. I don't think it supports laptop monitor + 2 external displays.

how do you disable the laptop monitor? - i've got a m4400. it runs a 24" monitor at the correct resolution but its not as clear as my desktop.

Disabling the latop screen is only to allow 2 monitors.

If you've got one 24" ... and having trouble... then disabling the internal display is not going to fix.

Have a look at whether you've got the correct res, refresh... or if you're using VGA D15, that could be the problem in itself.

Bought it as a package. Advanced Port replicator and laptop came to just under $2900. That was with 4gb ram 200gb hard disk. DVDRW. Nvidia NVS160m, P9500, 64bit vista bus and 5300 wireless.

Make sure the resolution is correct. I had a bit of trouble setting the correct resolution with the laptop monitor enabled. You have to disable that first and then up the resolution on the external screens.

Works great now. Just undock to laptop and dock with screen closed for dual external. I like having all the usb connectors, power connector and network cable all on the replicator too.

Only issue with the setup sso far is that it runs a little hot. I think that's just cause it's all packed in tightly.

Anybody who has this can tell me if the DVI port doubles up as a HDMI port if i use a DVI-HDMI converter and plug it in via HDMI cable to the telly for video output? I'm assuming sound will not work, thanks in advance...
