Default what are those mini-laptops i keep seeing people with on the train?

Lately i've been noticing quite a few Japanese/Chinese people on the trains with very small laptops.
They are very small laptop type devices about half the size of the Eeepcs but no touch pads.
Any ideas what they are?

you sure their not just traslators? maybe a libretto perhaps?
