Default Where have all the DELL 14" laptops gone?

Hi,

Is it just me or have Dell killed of most of their 14" laptop models.
This seems to be in both Inspiron and Vostro ranges.

To me this is the perfect size notebook.
Was looking to buy a vostro 1400 but now only one crappy model left.
And nothing announced in the newer series, ie no vostro 1410.
Can someone shed some light on this, maybe hellsangel?

Might have to look at HP or someone else.

14 was always in no-mans land...too big to be truely portable, yet too small to truely be a desktop replacement.

whats wrong with 13"?

I just had this thing in my mind that 13" was too small, 15.4" too big and 14" just the right size
Not necessarily for taking with me everywhere, more for lounging around the house with, and taking to coffee shop to talk to clients occasionally.

wtf are you talking about? 14s used to be common. What's made them rare has nothing to do with being too small or too big. its the change to widescreen displays that has made 13.3 and 15.4 the dominant sizes.

where did i say that 14s were never common?

14s were common even after the widescreen revolution.

so really, wtf are YOU on about?

A 13.3inch widescreen is better IMO than a 14.1inch 4:3 ratio screen.

A 14.1inch 4:3 ratio screen is 11.28inch wide 8.46inch high.

A 13.3inch 16:10 ratio screen is 11.2inch wide 7inch high.

For web browsing where width is most important the 13.3inch is just as good as the older/larger 14.1inch screen. The 13.3inch having a smaller height allows for a much smaller laptop size with only a marginal increase in scrolling.

14.1inch 4:3 screens were never in no mans land. They were the most popular screen size at the start of the century. Back then 1024x768 was a true desktop replacement. 12.1inch 800x600 were the portable screens used back then.

And how do modern 14" 16:10 1280x800 notebooks fit into this equation. I wouldn't buy anything 4:3 ever.
I am just making an observation, I sell HP and Toshiba notebooks all day long with the 14" screen I just described.
I think it is the best size notebook IMO, and was wondering wondering if Dell were going to bring out a Vostro 1410 or similar, as i still like the finish on these, and the accidental damage warranty etc.
