Linx is known for high temps though right? How high do they get in Prime?

Intel Burn Test 2.3 x10 runs at Maximum stress level using all available ram (approx 7GB) gave me a max of 52 deg, test passed. Keep in mind this is @ stock. Although prime loads all cores, Intel Burn Test is only at 50% load for some reason?

Hi guys,

Looking for a cooler to use on my S775 HTPC. I want something quiet, down firing fan, not aluminium based (so I can use coolabs liquid metal TIM), and as cheap as possible. I will be using either a P4 531 (already have), or buying a C2D based chip for the power benefits.

I don't know if it will be active or passive yet. Hopefully passive, but it depends on the chip and the airflow through the case.

I would avoid liquid metal pro. I recently attempted to remove it from cpu and waterblock and it was a huge PITA. Use ICD7, temps are just as good if not better and its non conductive and easy to remove.

Any recommendations on a cooler? I am only using the LMP because I have it handy. It is that or white goop.

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble figuring out whether I should be getting better temps than what I am here, or whether they're about right.

Got an i7 920 at stock clock speeds and a Xigmatek Thor's Hammer cooler with 2 Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1150RPMs running push/pull.

Not 100% sure about my ambient temps.. the ducted heater's control thing gives a reading of about 21 degrees at the moment.. my room would be within a degree or two of that I think. CoreTemp/RealTemp are both showing 36/31/34/30 for my cores. Under stress it gets up to about 50 degrees.

I wouldn't be too fussed about it except that you see people posting figures with overclocked 920s where their idle temps are in the 20s - very low 30s, and their load temps seem to be considerably lower than mine? Do they just live in the Antarctic? Have 3000RPM fans that sound like a jet taking off? Or am I doing something wrong?

I think 50 degree load temps are just fine?

I haven't built a pc in a few years until recently... since when have coolers been using flimsy plastic clips instead of proper metal brackets? Why would manufacturers go for smaller and shitter clips when heatsinks are getting bigger and heavier? Who the fuck thought this was a good idea??
