I believe you would need a 1366 retention bracket
Like this ![]() http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=337 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zalman-ZM-CS4A...04153002r37608 That for the 9700 Not sure about the Corsair Nautilus 500 however - as it is watercooling There may be something you could do, if you swapped to the Water Cooling forum and asked in there, they might be able to suggest something you could do to get that to work

I got the Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme. It's an amazing cooler for little money.
It cools better than my old Zalman CNPS9700 which cost more when I got it. The Zalman is also very lound. I believe it runs at over 2500 rpm at full speed. It doesn't have a 4 pin plug, so you can't control the speed via bios. You also need to use a back plate. The Arctic Cooling doesn't need a backplate. You secure a bracket with pushpins and then attached the cooler via 2 screws. Only issue is you need a long screwdriver to reach them... The cooler is amazing. It has a 120mm fan which runs at 1500rpm max. Very quiet. And it has a 4 pin plug, so you can control the rpm via bios. Can highly recommend it to anyone who is after value. http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalo...th=1_42&mID=69 Last edited by Mau1wurf1977; 1st March 2009 at 10:18 PM. |

I checked the zalman website. It is actually 2800rpm: http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/...ad.asp?idx=164 So if yours is 1500 then you are running it almost at min. speed (5 or 7V)... The fan connector is 3 pin. So it doesn't support PMW at all. You need a 4 pin plug for that. And that way the fan will go full speed when you plug it in. Even the stock intel cooler has a 4 pin. That cooler cost a fortune and you kind of want all the features. The green LED edition (Nvidia or something) does have a 4 pin plug though. I used one of these Zalman fanmates to control the speed. But yea at full speed (and thats where it cools the best) it is loud as hell. The Arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme costs less, cools better, is quieter and doesn't need a backplate and it's cheaper. |

Get the biggest size that will fit. I guess 120mm. And then you need to thing about the RPM. Around 1000 is a good balance of performance and noise. <1000 gets silent, >1000 gets loud. |

Eihter you do have a 4 pin plug version of that cooler, or you have a better mainboard that can control 3 pin fans via voltage.
Most bioses can't do this... |
