pretty understandable i think considering how early it is. Have to agree the ranged/close combat balance thing they have going there doesn't inspire confidence. IMHO if they make ranged combat completely impotent it will limit the gameplay terribly and I can't see them doing it. The bolter fire does seem kinda underpowered but he was only just peppering those enemies, wasn't really sustaining any serious amount of fire. If the player character is some kind of chapter champion it would explain the easy dispatch of the CSMs... just have to wait and see I guess. The visual look is spot on though imho.

Co-op is an absolute necessity for a game like this!!!

The melee reminded me of Assassins Creed, in that it looked like you could literally just sit there holding down block and basically be unstoppable.

Ranged combat should be a viable option, but it basically does look like just spray at the enemy while you close so you can gut them with your chainsword, which is a bit disappointing. Though who knows, maybe they'll do spots where you can pick up random weapons like heavy bolters, missile launchers, etc.

Looks sweet otherwise, hopefully it does get to the full game side of things...

you haven't played through much of Assassins Creed, have you? By the end block is damn near useless. I wouldn't be suprised if the whole "lol total focus on close combat" thing goes out the window as soon as it hits playtesting. If chainsword "finishing moves" are the only way you can actually kill an enemy it doesn't matter how many animations they have, it's going to get old eventually. Keep in mind this is a VERY early build, I think it's a bit premature to be making summary judgements on the gameplay and balance before we see some more info.

Actually, I've completed Assassins Creed. Currently sitting at 740/1000 on the achievements side of things, can't be bothered finding all the Templar knights or hunting down all the flags etc. All I really did towards the end was basically sit there blocking and waiting to counter with the short sword, or if I was feeling stupid, sit there without any weapon except the concealed dagger for laughs.

Yeah, I fully expect the focus on close combat as demonstrated in the video to not be as prevalent, as it'd be pretty boring if it was basically close combat the whole time. Hrm... The possibility of using a flamer to burn your enemies while you close. Oh wait, same thing as the bolter, except you could have pretty flame animations!

Of course, it could change and instead of just a chainsword, you could get a power sword, power fist, etc.. Would be interesting to see the finishing animations of a power fist, hahah.
