Default I've had it with Nokia 5800's horribly buggy software

I've spoken before about how horribly buggy the nokia music store is, how poorly designed the software is and how it rarely works.

This past couple weeks i've been trying to load some maps for europe onto my phone, but it's been impossible due to all the bugs in the software!

Nokia need to get their act together... Apple software is so much better, Nokia stand to lose serious marketshare. These days i think people expect basic PC-connectivity to work.

Hello!

Bit of a change in topic. Can anyone help me. I've searched with no luck. My wife has just gotten the 5800. We don't want to use packet data, because they charge too much for it. She doesn't really need it anyway. We will preload music, maps, etc. Can anyone tell me how to disable packet (ie on the mobile network) data? I then want to use my home wifi for when she wants to use the net.

Thanks.

ApE.

Spoken like a true Apple fanboi. I hate dealing with people like you with these notions that YOU know that this will cause the end of the company...

Fun touch screen games i like playing on my 5800:

- Bounce (awesome game, done everything possible, i want more)
- Scrabble (can play human v human, or human v comp)
- Platinum Solitaire (includes freecell)
- Dodge this (fun for a short while)
- BlockGo (good puzzle game, move the blocks around to make a path. Hard in the later rounds)
- SPB Brain Evolution (fun brain training games)
- Texas Hold 'Em
- Catch Phrase (yes like the TV show)
- AW Boardgames (includes chess, checkers, backgammon, more)
- 1942 (non-touch screen classic plane shooter game)

Got a bunch more, but haven't played them enough to review.
Even though i've got cool games like NFL 2010, Pro Golf 2010, Sonic Unleashed, SpiderMan, Gangster 2, etc.. I find myself playing the puzzle games all the time.

So I've had my Nokia 5310 for around seven months now and already I'm looking to upgrade to one of these! - Though the GPS for is a large attraction for me... Being that I may be traveling overseas at the end of the year.

Also $405 appears to be a bit of a bargain price in many aspects considering it's features compared to some others.

I know, it's an awesome phone at an awesome price. The ones for $405 do not come with the 12mths music subscription, FYI.

$399 + $25 shipping (no 8gb microSD) - http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/...17376673d6fb40

$404 + $25 shipping (no 8gb microSD) - http://www.techrific.com.au/nokia-58...a2de60c2e5bb76

The above site says "free shipping", but then below it has shipping insurance for $25 which you must have. It says "for your piece of mind", what a crock, don't give us this "free shipping" crap.
The becextech one comes up as $404.44 on staticICE, but on the site it's $399.

Love my 5800.

Has anyone figured out how to change maps in the stupid nokia maps app? I've downloaded maps for australia, paris, italy and south korea. Searched everywhere but unable to find how to change to a different map/country. Searching doesn't come up with anything either. Eg search eiffel tower and nothing comes up. No doubt because it's still on the australia map.

This latest "nokia map loader" version is finally allowing me to download maps to the phone, but it still can't show you which maps are already on the phone, if any, and can't delete certain maps or anything like that yet either. It's all rather strange, and frustrating!

Nokia maps now seems to be causing the phone to completely lock up every time i do a search.

That was what Nokia Maps ended up doing to my N95 too.

I saw this Ad, and i thought it was saying free on $29 cap too, but i saw it again and it had some text saying it's on the $29 cap, but with handset payments. It said how much but i forgot. I think $22 maybe.

Just looked on the site, it has $24 monthly handset repayments on the $29 cap. No free bro, sorry.

My Test one went for about 2 days and half but I didn't do much on it... my Test situation was like (2 or 3 Phone calls a Day, 3 or 4 SMS a Day, Didnt listen to music or play games)

All I can say is that Some Phone users expect too much on the Battery Life.
The Battery Life is Expected on many factors, Like How Far you are from your service providers towers the further you are the more power you will need, having bluetooth on always, playing games, alot of phone calls, Messaging, Emails and listening to music these will lower the battery life. But for a Test Dont use the phone at all and see how long it takes to become flat (its going to be hard) anything above 2 and half days is ok.

I was happy with the battery life in the first week or so, it was nearly lasting 2 days.
But in the last couple of months i'm finding that the battery is running out before the end of the day, on most days! Maybe like 4 days each week, i will start hearing the battery low warning tone, and if i don't put it on the charger, it will go flat.
Now i don't know if this is because i've been using more of the functions like music playback, podcasting, games. Or if it's something i've done wrong with the battery management, and the battery isn't as good now.
I think it's probably a combination of both. I do play a bunch of games every day, download and play the hamish & andy podcast, a few calls & texts, a bit of web using wifi and/or 3G. Some GPS every now and then, some camera and gallery use, Nokia music download. Most of the other functions i use fairly sparingly.

I'm not very picky with battery life, i always hear people whinging about poor battery life if it doesn't last over 2 days. For me, i'm happy if it lasts a whole day cause i put my phone on the charger every night when i go to bed.

But as i've mentioned, it's just short of meeting my needs.
