Now that I think about it, the price increase isn't really that much, I paid $1849 for my 2.16ghz macbook about a year ago. So $2099 is only an extra $250 with the dropping aussie dollar.

Interesting that Apple's entry level laptops can now power the 30" displays...

Great, one big button. That means Macbooks now come with a game-show buzzer. This is appropriate as every time I look at them I hear the 'wrong' sound from Family Feud b-bow.

+1, good call! though it being clickable puts my mind at ease, i've preferred a button i can "click" as opposed to tapping.

I actually don't mind the look of the new macbooks and macbook pro's. The prices are a bit crap but I guess that's expected because of the exchange rate. I'm quite happy with my current macbook and don't think that its worth upgrading yet. Probably best to wait another 8 or so months when snow leopard is released and then see whats current then.

If you have a 30" display, I don't think pricing wiill be a bit barrier..
.. unless you blew all your money on the display!

As said apart from the new design it isn't really a leap forward.
45nm is still the current generation. Worth noting these are now 1066MHz FSB parts as opposed to the previous 800MHz FSB units. From what I've seen the 9600 is definitely a step up from the 8600 series. Took Apple a long time to drop prices when the dollar was up. Pretty quick on the way down! Don't forget KCP pricing is still valid until the end of October!
