Default Herald-Sun Tour stage 6 (Lygon st - highres)

I managed to fill 2 cards today out on the final stage of the Herald-Sun tour, and thought I'd share a few just "because I can". Here's some shots I've picked after spending about 15 minutes going through them. Originals, untouched. If you any for commercial purposes, contact me.

Nice shots, but they seem to mostly be slightly out of focus, or the AF has picked up the wrong rider.

Would help to actually process them and crop them tighter, get the emotion of their faces more noticeable.

In your fourth image I believe you and I may have been in the same spot.

And this is what a media pass lets you capture :-)

I never stayed in the same spot for more then about 3 laps. Frankly the track was laid out well enough that a media pass offered very little more than being able to get a shot of the sprint finish that you couldn't do elsewhere.

Seriously? The rider might be powering hard, but without a face the shot doesnt offer much.

Faces aren't always everything in a shot.

Yeah the focus has been missed on most of these. I think faces are quite important in cycling photos!

So why didn't anyone come visit me in the big camera shop just behind the race!!!

Keep the shots coming lads.

They are in cycling when youve got such a close crop.

For example, if Matty had his head down, this shot would be shit.

Well I have to say that there were certain sections of the course apart from the sprint finish that pass was very handy.

Alot of people tend to shoot standing up, if you want capture cycling action a lower point of view helps either crouching or lying down on the ground and point the camera up. Only comes with practice. Being able to pan effectively helps as well.

As for the big camera shop Vanbar ? hmmm what can I say MSY gives me better service.

Pretty much every cycling photographer will use a flash. The riders are used to it, doesnt really bother them.

Actually now that you say this it does remind me that I tried to find spots where I could get down low and take shots, but the barriers around the track were too dense to shoot closely through them, and you couldn't shoot under them either, so I missed a few shots I'd normally like to have.

However, I know of more than one person who while they had accreditation as 'media', it really dilutes the term.
