I'm going to swap my Antec 900 for a 1200 & wondering what you guys think of the power supply fitment. I have a COOLER MASTER REAL POWER M1000W which has the fan on the bottom (or top if flipped ). Just wondering if you think it would be worthwhile to cut a hole in the bottom of the case to get clean air ? The rest is on water so internal temps not too big of a problem.

I think it'd be worth if if you have the patience for it and should aid in cable routing also (Since the cables are hard wired into your PSU and turning the PSU upside down will make the cables closer to the cable management holes). Good luck with the cable job though, non-modular cable routing especially in the 1200 can be a bit difficult at times. The trick is to move the bottom HDD cage up one and hide excess cabling there if your PSU isn't modular.

Are you going to punt any sought of dust filter amoung the hole cut and the PSU fan? Also might be an idea to get bigger case feet or some wheels (MNPC tech comes to mind :)).

The PSU in the 1200 mount comes with a bracket so the PSU can be mounted upside down (i.e. fan on top).

I just mounted it normally (hx620, so fan is on bottom). There's enough space under the PSU for it to breathe (there is a gap) and all the fans make for spectacular airflow through the case anyways.

The only reason I have mounted my HX1000 the other way the is for those sorta concerns. The bottom HDD bay is full with 3 HDDs in mine so the air has to travel between the gaps in teh cage. To makes matters worse I plan to get a CM 3:4 bay (Got my raptor in a 3.5/5.25 converter). Also wouldn't the PSU fan get a lot of dust in it that way and the temp rise since there's no direct way for it to get air if metal is in the way?

Yeah, I was going to put a filter under the case & hold it in place with a custom bracket.
What do you mean -MNPC tech comes to mind- ??

The fan on the PSU can draw air comfortably from the gap between the bottom of the case and the PSU shelf... there's lots of fresh air in these cases :)

Do you mean with the PSU sitting on the rubber stops or removing the bracket at the back of the case, turning it upside down & refitting the PSU with approx 2" clearance ?

I suppose it can whn you think about it. Wouldn't mounting fan side up also aid in exhausting heat from otehr components too though? I was under the impression because of the narrow air ways that the fan on the PSU would have to spin a bit faster.

@ OP - MNPC tech is a computer modding parts store. They sell things like windows, case feet, grills etc. You can get some nice big case feet that will help improve the gap for air circulation if you plan to mod your case :). I suggest you go check it out and find some nice big case feet :).

Dust obviously can become a big concern under the case feet area, so it might be an idea to have some nice big case feet if possible :).

Yeah the rubber stops that form the 'shelf' (poor choice of words lol) the PSU sits on.

Dont really need a case fan forcing air into the PSU, the PSU fan draws air in from the case :)

That may be the case (if you'll pardon the pun!), but i certainly dont notice any more noise from the PSU... certainly not when ive got 10 fans + laing D5 pump all whirring away lol.

Thanks guys, there's a few more things to look at now. For now I think I'll put it in fan side down, on the rubber stops, higher case feet & see how it goes re. cooling / noise.

Saiyan_Overlord - THANKS for the MNPC tech link !! ;)
What started out as a simple case swap could turn out to be a whole lot more. :D

Google works wonder :p. At tafe so no time for BB code I'm afraid :p.

I was in a similar postion (I wanted to get the CM HAF 932 and switch from my 1200), but then I also realise that contstant caase switching can be a annoyance.

You should do what I just did for my 1200. I replaced one of the stock HDD cages that only fit 3 HDDs with one of the coolermaster 4in3 bay converters so I could put all 4 of my HDDs in one cage so I can use the other two as push-pull intakes with 2 fans at the back of both :). This cage was put in the bottom and I'm using the aluminum one.

EDIT: Are those wheels at the bottom? Looks nice :). Also what about two quiet exhaust 120mm fans for the back or your rad?

I've got the pump under the disc drive so I'm not sure if I can fit those 4in3, I'll check it out though.
Yeah, they are wheels. I got them from Mitre10 but I think Bunnings have the also. I posted a thread recently on them if you want to have a look http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=725605
I've got the 2 Antec ones still in the case & they SEEM ok, what do you recommend ?

For the back of the rad I'd recommend something the moves a decent amount of air but is still quiet. This Scythe 120mm blue LED fan doesn't seem bad (14dba @ 33~cfm) or the ultra kaze (1000rpm model, 38mm thickness) also seems like a good rad fan (I believe a dew OCAUers have these fans on their rads if I'm mistaken).

In regards to the pump, is their enough room in the case for you to put in between the PSU or case or perhaps mount the pump in one of the other HDD cages?

I just had a look at the CM 4in3, I think I can get it to fit the way I have it set up. Do you think that the internal rear & top fans are not enough ?

Wow I didn't even realise the fact that you had a second rad, I'm blinded by the fact that the inside of the 1200 is already black to notice that . Eiter way wouldn't it be good to at least have some intake for that top rad ratehr then just relying on the 200mm top fan to suck air through the rad?
