B-but where did the Cosmos go??

Also it seems kinda sacrilegious to get a case that can hold a 560 rad and not watercool it.
Not even a little bit

the PSU died, I decided to sell the gfx cards and try a single 580, a Lightning which of course wouldn't fit... and although I had originally planned to hang onto x58 until the wheels fell off Ivy was a callin, seemed like a good time to sell up. I miss the Cosmos, it was a sad day
I think though, water cooling in this case would be a nightmare, sure you can get a big rad in there but there's not much room for anything else. I got kinda sick of everything having to be so specific. WC was fun but too expensive and time consuming for me to do another one... this year anyway

Just bought a 2nd GTX580 (from here) to go into my system, along with a new CPU waterblock (eBay), an XSPC RayStorm, to replace my HeatKiller 3.0 (never liked the shininess of it) Also just got delivered a Razer Sphex mousepad from HK. Just not sure which colour tubing I should use with my new loop install, keep the white or get black?

Im also in the process of ordering some upgrade parts for my Corsair 800D, ordering the SATA3 HDD panel, non see through side panel & Also the following system parts from Corsair, 12GB of 2000Mhz Vengeance ram & 2 x 128GB Corsair Force3 SSD's. Was going to order the USB3.0 front panel but dont think its worth it when they still use the rear USB connectors

Then I'll be looking at sorting out my HDD's to the following
- 128GB Corsair Force3 = O/S (Current SSD shifted to Laptop 50% life left)
- 128GB Corsair Force3 = Game HDD (Sell 300GB VelociRaptor)
- 3TB Seagate = Storage (PS3 backups, Steam backups.. etc)
- 3TB Seagate = Storage (2) Transfer 2.44TB of data from 2x 2TB HDD's (Shit load of ASOT music, Recorded TV (NRL,Footy Show)
- 2TB = Misc drive
- 2TB = Move to USB3.0 external storage casing

This is what my PC looks like atm

One of my old AMD Sempron boxes died. (Motherboard gradually failed until it simply didn't boot-up any more.)...I couldn't wait for AMD to pull their finger out any longer, so I upgraded that specific box to Core i5 (Ivy Bridge).

DEAD:
2006 system (1 core)
* Sempron 2800+ @ 2Ghz (Stock cooling, stock voltage)
* KingMax 1GB (2x 512MB) DDR1 400Mhz
* ASRock K8SLI-eSATA2 mobo
* ULi M1697 chipset
* Geforce 7600GS
* SB Audigy sound card
* Realtek RTL8201CL 10/100 on-board LAN
* Pioneer DVD-burner (PATA)
* Xubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (Linux, 32bit)
* Generic (Laser brand) 4-port PS/2 KVM

UPGRADED TO:
2012 system (4 cores)
* Core i5 3570K (Stock cooling, stock voltage for now)
* Corsair Vengeance LP (4x 4GB) 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz, 9-9-9-24.
* ASUS P8Z77-M PRO mobo
* Intel Z77 chipset
* Intel HD4000 IGP
* Realtek ALC892 on-board sound
* Realtek 8111F Gigabit on-board LAN
* Lite-on DVD-burner (SATA)
* Xubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (Linux, 64bit)
* Aten CS62US 2-port USB KVM

Unchanged/Retained:
* Supermicro SC760 full-tower E-ATX case
* 1x Samsung Spinpoint F3 HDD 1TB
* 2x WD Green HDD 2TB
* Antec 500W NeoPower PSU
* Samsung 24 inch Sync Master S24B300 LED
* Logitech USB wired Keyboard and Mouse.

Bare in mind, I don't play modern day games...That's why you don't see any current generation Geforce- or Radeon-based video card in the system.

It's the big one on the lower left. The smaller one is another AMD Sempron 2800+ build from 2006; that has yet to expire.

Many moons ago, I cut off the original side vents (starting to rust) and replaced them filtered bits.

You'll note the distinct dark-grey paint there at the drive bay area...That's anti-rust paint I put on after grinding off the rust. The Samsung Spinpoint HDD is housed in a Zalman HDD passive cooling caddie. (It has rubber mounts that completely nullify the annoying weird pitch noise the HDD makes due to vibration...Its dead silent).

...And here's the Core i5 3570K with stock Intel HSF, ASUS mobo, and all the memory slots filled with 4GB Corsair Vengeance LP sticks.

You'll probably note the five 120mm fans. (1 in upper rear; 2 in lower front; 2 on the side). The fans are controlled by switches on the top of the case. See the 2nd pic and note the green LED where my headphones are...
* Green => Switch to the left => Low speed/noise.
* Off => Switch to the centre => No noise.
* Red => Switch to the right => Full fan speeds...Sounds like your typical fridge. Low pitched hum.

The problem with this tower case is that its from the late 1990s. (No design considerations for efficient cooling or low noise like today's cases). It used to be quite loud and accumulate heat in its original arrangement; I was hitting 50 to high 60s deg/C no matter what components I used. ...So I made some customisations to improve cooling and to reduce noise.
