Default XPS laptop - When will Dell be releasing a new version?

Does anyone have any idea when or if Dell will be releasing the XPS laptop with the Centrino 2 chip or if they will be releasing a new XPS laptop design all together as the current design has been around for well over a year now?

After hunting around for a solid performing laptop for home and office work for a month or 2 now, I have decided that the Dell XPS is probably the best machine I have looked at. It sounds to be well built, perform great, and has a premium warranty to back it up. The only negative things I have heard about it is the hard drive is loud and the slot loading drive is also loud, does anyone know if these issues have been resolved and updated in the last few months?

So I go to buy the laptop and realise they don’t have the new Centrino 2 chip! I assumed they would, however chip they only offer the Core Duo chip. I thought Dell was all about consumer customisation and they were able to get new technologies to the market faster because of their direct selling model? So why don’t they have the new Centrino 2 chips? I want to buy the 15” XPS, but don’t think I can part with the best part of $2000 AUD without the machine having this latest chip. Even the new Sony’s now have the new Centrino 2 chip and they sell for around the same price for this XPS.

So my question is, does anyone have any idea when or if they will be releasing the XPS laptop with the Centrino 2 chip or if they will be releasing a new XPS laptop design all together as the current design has been around for well over a year now?

Does anyone else have any feedback on the XPS laptops?

There should be a 'Studio XPS' series coming out this month, I've been waiting to see them. This will apparently be a short-term solution before Dell release the real new XPS series and new Studio series... or something like that.

Feel free to correct any misinformation people.

Really, have you heard any word on what the studio xps will be like? Will it be in the xps shape or the studio shape, or something different?

Any idea how much of a short term solution this will be? Like when will the real updated xps shape be released?

I've been hearing about new lines coming out for months now...

I wonder why Dell is taking so long?

Yea I recon, I thought they were all about bring new tech to the market the fastest because of their direct selling model? It certainly doesn't seem that way...

Yeah there is some apparently leaked document on the Studio XPS 13/15/16 or something which are due out in November, which i also have been waiting to see if it's true. Chuck "Studio XPS" into Google and the first couple of links show what i'm talking about.

That said, they could just be rumors or fake!

Hope it's true and they release a new model before xmas! I'm keen to get a new laptop and not sure how much longer I can hold off!

How much of a difference do you think the centrino 2 chip will make? And is this the new chip people are talking about is expected to be released with the dell studio xps?

I was holding out for these new Studio XPS but when every other manufacturer is releasing their new models with greatly increased price tags I would expect Dell to do the same. I doubt they'll be such good value as the current XPS line.

Don't give up all hope though, as seen on the news page they're releasing XPS Desktops so perhaps the notebooks aren't too far off after all.
