Default installing vista takes forever

i have an ACER ASPIRE 6930G laptop which i recently purchased i used it for a few hours and hated all the acer crap that comes with vista.
so i reformated the hard drive and started installing my own vista ultimate 32bit. all went fine until it reached the final stage "COMPLETING INSTALLATION"
It has not hanged but it's taking forever, so far it's been over 1 1/2 hours and i am still waiting for it to complete.
any suggestions because i am about to kick the shit out of it.

I see this laptop has a SATA drive. Try, if you can, changing the SATA mode to ATA in BIOS (assuming it's using AHCI now, or just disabling AHCI altogether, i'm not familiar with the BIOS options for this laptop) and then re-try the install.

yeah that's what i was also thinking but it finally snapped out of it after 2 hours and said it doesn't have all the drivers needed for the install.
so i installed my 64 bit version and that installed no prob. i just could not get the internet going but i downloaded the LAN drivers of acer's website and that is working for my updates.

Yea, this pissed me off the first few times I encountered it (why does it have to happen right near the end :P)... On Dell machines you can just switch the sata operation to ATA instead of AHCI... or insert the disk with the AHCI drivers when it gets to the partitioning stage of the installation. I assume its pretty much the same for every laptop, but I've only had experience with Dell machines
