Default Asus EeePC 901 Reviewed (lots of pics)

Welcome to my pictorial review of the Asus EeePc 901. There are many reviews around for the EeePC so some areas I won't go into, however what some people may find of interest is exactly what is on the drives of this Netbook and preinstaled for your use. Lastly a spread of benchmarks we all love them

Unboxing:
A nice treat is the sleeve you get to keep your netbook in, along wth the cleaning cloth this will keep your Eee looking brand new for sometime.

Product Shots:
Very Solid, high quality plastic. These Eee's are built to last.
(Just throwing the idea out there, some laptops are now coming with a removeable "clip on clip off" lid so that user can mod there computer. Kinda like mobile phone shells, if they started doing this with netbooks I reckon someone would be on to winning idea.)

Highlight Parts:
Yes as it has been mentioned many times the keyboard is a little cramped, still well made good feel and you do get used to it, The extra size shrink of the 8.9" over the 10" is worth it for portability but if you are required to type a lot ie. Journalist, programmer etc it really would not be my first choice.
Touch pad, whilst the keyboard is a bit of a downer the touchpad makes up for it in spades serouisly its freaking awesome. Don't just read about it go find one and spend 15min playing with it you'll see what I mean.
SD card reader is standard, cheapest and widely spread format a good choice but in the compeditive Netbook field a 5in1 multi would be a nice idea for future models.
Another great idea here is the velcro ties on the power cables.

Compare:
A few images to compare the size of this tiny beast.
As you can see at this size it becomes a Keys, wallet, phone, EeePC, as you walk out the door.

BIOS:
Full screen by screen run through of a very bare BIOS (come on Asus let us have a little overclocking fun, let us have a download of a "Pro User BIOS" we can flash is desired that gives us Multi/FSB/Timings with three selectable user profiles we can customise MaxBattery/Standard/PowerUser "OC"

Battery life:
You get 10% life to start you off and one recommends you change Windows default power settings to (first full charge takes just shy of 3hrs to complete. Battery life is very good depends on workload of course.

There would be heaps of screen shots so I'll just type the results on this one.
Whats interesting here is that 128k is the sweet spot anything under 32k just well sux basicly. Also note that the D: drive whilst a little more CPU hungry is the quicker of the two.

Hope you found something interesting and useful in this pictorial, I enjoyed writing it. As for the little EeePC these netbooks have in a very short time become the next must have item, if you don't have one yet get one but be warned it will become stuck to you like glue.

Great review! I'll link it on the news page now. In future, please let news@overclockers.com.au know when you (or anyone) writes a review like this so we can draw some attention to it. I just stumbled across this by accident, 3 weeks after you wrote it.

awesome review; covers the details that syndicated reviews skip over

i do agree that netbooks are all the go. though, i will refrain from buying one until a good model comes out with USIM reader built-in, so i can use the ol' mobile broadband without buggering around with a USB modem.

thanks again.

Nice pictorial review - very detailed! I still want to get a 901 myself to replace my 701, but I'm waiting for prices to drop a bit further. That said, the Acer Aspire One is awfully tempting at $319 now, but looks and feels crap compared to the 901...
