Can you do a clean restore using your backup partition?
Can you boot into Safe Mode, use Windows system restore to restore to Last Known Good Configuration, and then restore using your backup partition?

I would try that first.

DSE have a 14-day change of mind policy. Just make sure you ring them first to advise them you are coming in to refund it. From your post, it indicates you paid cash for this machine. Usually they don't keep much money in the tills, so they may ask you to come during a busy (ish) period, or later in the day when there is more money to do the refund with.
