WTF, that was one of the best parts of FF, being able to just wander around and level up

Help me out people, I've played every FF for about 15 years and I'm just getting an uncomfortable feeling about this one. Anyone played the import?

I can't wait to play this to see how it has turned out. In all honesty the 'open world' of early games wasn't all that amazing though it did manage to make you feel like you had traveled a great distance. My dismay will be if towns take on the cut down approach the rest of the game seems to have - the review even suggests that towns aren't what they use to be
I use to enjoy trying to find that out of the way weapons shop haha.To me based on the review the game almost looks like a interactive fantasy anime series, even the music has that whimsicle feel to it in parts. It most definately seems they have gone the film approach over open game and while if it works well thats great I would still not mind seeing some returning elements from the earlier games if they see fit for the next game, the main thing for me is exploration not so much open world as much as just areas and environments you can really explore and are rewarded for doing so much like classic RPG's such as zelda, crono trigger and the super nintendo FF games. I think I will really miss towns like in the previous games but it may well suite the game. As most reviews say the game takes 40 hours plus to finish and it is 'cut down' as to out of story content it could end up being a more story filled game. |

I was hunting down rumours of an early release in Aus and read a snippit which stated that it's linear until you head down below then it's a traditional FF free to roam

Seems far more like FFX than any other FF in regards to the 'levels' and area. Doesn't appear you troll the world map but you do get some large areas and I assume there will be some sort of airship to get around to places faster though in the streamline approach maybe they have designed it so you don't really need to go back your always heading to where you need.
Disapointed about no real shops
